Constraints in conceptual modelling: outlining an approach to business-driven web service composition

Martin Juhrisch; Gunnar Dietz

With Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs), companies are facing a paradigm shift towards services as the key unit of their enterprise architectures. An exploitation of the potential of SOA is up to the applicability of business models for a transformation into service compositions. However, several shortcomings prevent semi-formal models from being a suitable resource of an automated transformation process. Problems result from a multitude of modelling aims, objects and procedures. This paper provides a method for business-process-oriented SOA design. A modelling environment gives an overview of business requirements and allows appropriate assignment of services to the business functions at the same time.

Convolution as the Key for Service-Identification in Complex Process Models

Gunnar Dietz; Martin Juhrisch; Katrina Leyking

Process models contain a lot of information. However, even created with the goal of enhancing the understanding of complex processes by making them transparent in an easy human-readable form, it still remains to be a hard task to analyze them in an automated computer-based way. While service-oriented architectures offer a technical base for service-management, the question of mapping business requirements to a design that remains maintainable is still in discussion. In this paper a new approach to ease the analysis of complex models is presented. It heavily relies on a new convolution theory that allows to generate ratios, which can be used to determine the applicability of a service candidate for its use as a real service within a SOA.

Konzeptuelle Modellierung im klinischen Umfeld

Martin Juhrisch; Hannes Schlieter; Gunnar Dietz
