Laryngoscope | 2007

Outcome of endoscopic treatment of adult postintubation tracheal stenosis.

S. A. Reza Nouraei; Khalid Ghufoor; Anil Patel; Tina Ferguson; David J. Howard; Guri Sandhu

Objectives/Hypothesis: To assess the results of primary endoscopic treatment of adult postintubation tracheal stenosis, to identify predictors of a successful outcome, and better define the scope and limitations of minimally‐invasive surgery for this condition.

Laryngoscope | 2006

Early endoscopic treatment of acute inflammatory airway lesions improves the outcome of postintubation airway stenosis

S. A. Reza Nouraei; Arvind Singh; Anil Patel; Catriona Ferguson; David J. Howard; Guri Sandhu

Objectives/Hypothesis: The objective of this study was to compare the results of treating acute postintubation stenotic airway lesions with the results of treating mature lesions and to assess whether early intervention improves the outcome.

Cricothyroid Approximation and Subluxation in 21 Male-to-Female Transsexuals

Jeeve Kanagalingam; Christos Georgalas; Gary Wood; Suki Ahluwalia; Guri Sandhu; Anthony D. Cheesman

Objectives: To evaluate the medium‐term outcome of cricothyroid approximation and subluxation (CTAS) with postoperative speech therapy for pitch elevation in male‐to‐female transsexuals.

Neuronal Markers in Allergic Rhinitis: Expression and Correlation With Sensory Testing

Stephen O'Hanlon; Paul Facer; Karen D. Simpson; Guri Sandhu; Hesham Saleh; Praveen Anand

Introduction: Although the role of immunoglobulin E‐mediated hypersensitivity reactions in allergic rhinitis is well known, the relative contribution of sensory nerves to the symptoms of rhinitis is uncertain. This study looked at the level of specific neuronal markers including the nerve marker protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5), sensory and autonomic neuropeptides, the capsaicin/heat receptor TRPV1, and nerve growth factor (NGF) in patients with allergic rhinitis and controls and their correlation with nasal sensitivity.

Laryngoscope | 2012

Outcome of a multimodality approach to the management of idiopathic subglottic stenosis.

S.A.R. Nouraei; Guri Sandhu

To assess the results of treating idiopathic subglottic stenosis (ISS), determine predictors of treatment success and outcome, and better define roles and limitations of endoscopic and open surgery.

Laryngoscope | 2008

Role of Planned Postchemoradiotherapy Selective Neck Dissection in the Multimodality Management of Head and Neck Cancer

S. A. Reza Nouraei; Tahwinder Upile; Chadwan Al-Yaghchi; Mary Lei; Guri Sandhu; Simon Stewart; Peter M. Clarke; Ann Sandison

Objective/Hypothesis: To assess the oncologic efficacy and functional outcome of selective postchemoradiotherapy neck dissection for stage IV head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

Laryngoscope | 2006

Objective sizing of upper airway stenosis: a quantitative endoscopic approach.

S.A.R. Nouraei; D. W. McPartlin; S.M. Nouraei; Anil Patel; C Ferguson; David J. Howard; Guri Sandhu

Objective: In patients with airway stenosis, anatomy of the lesion determines the magnitude of the biomechanical ventilatory disturbance and thus the nature and severity of symptoms. It also gives information about biology, likelihood of response to treatment, and prognosis of laryngotracheal lesions. Accurate airway sizing throughout treatment is therefore central to managing this condition. We developed a method for objective assessment of airway lesions during endoscopy.

Laryngoscope | 2007

Quantifying the physiology of laryngotracheal stenosis: changes in pulmonary dynamics in response to graded extrathoracic resistive loading.

S. A. Reza Nouraei; Claire Winterborn; S. Mahmoud Nouraei; Dino A. Giussani; Kevin Murphy; David J. Howard; Guri Sandhu

Objectives/Hypothesis: A model of airway obstruction was developed to study the impact of changes in airway resistance on ventilatory mechanics. This was used to derive quantitative indices of airway obstruction to aid in the objective diagnosis and physiological monitoring of adult patients with laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS).

Clinical Otolaryngology | 2008

Sensitivity and responsiveness of the medical research council dyspnoea scale to the presence and treatment of adult laryngotracheal stenosis

S.A.R. Nouraei; S.M. Nouraei; Premjit S. Randhawa; C.R. Butler; J.C. Magill; David J. Howard; Guri Sandhu

Objectives:  To assess the sensitivity and responsiveness of the Medical Research Council (MRC) scale, a psychophysical dyspnoea assessment instrument to the presence and treatment of adult laryngotracheal stenosis.

Laryngoscope | 2008

Increased nerve fiber expression of sensory sodium channels Nav1.7, Nav1.8, And Nav1.9 in rhinitis.

Siew M. Keh; Paul Facer; Karen D. Simpson; Guri Sandhu; Hesham Saleh; Praveen Anand

Introduction: Voltage‐gated sodium channels Nav1.7, Nav1.8, and Nav1.9 are involved in nerve action potentials and have been proposed to underlie neuronal hypersensitivity. We have therefore studied their levels in allergic and nonallergic rhinitis.
