This paper describes the design of low noise amplifier using enhancement mode technology for WLAN front-end applications. Typical LNA designed for the IEEE802.1a standard is required to operate with low noise, high gain and exhibit low noise figure. The design uses feedback, and balanced topology to enhance the performance and to achieve the design goal. The LNA is designed operate at 2.4 GHz, noise figure (NF)<; 2dB, gain>;10 dB and with S11 and S22 <;-10 dB. With the voltage supply at 5 V, the total current consumptions for the LNA is 60 Ma.

This paper describes the design of Low-pass filter using bowtie Defected Ground Structure (DGS). The designing of low-pass filter begins from lumped element in which the filter will be built using capacitors and inductors before converted to open and short circuited stub. The low-pass filter using bowtie Defected Ground Structure (DGS) is required to operate at 10 GHz for radar application. As a comparison, the design of different size and quantity of bowtie Defected Ground Structure (DGS) were analyzed to identify the better performance of the low-pass filter. The design of this filter had been simulated by using schematic and EM Simulation in Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) software.

This paper presents comparison on IV Characteristics analysis between Silicon and InGaAs PIN Photodiode. PIN Photodiode is a structure that is consists of positive region, intrinsic region and negative region (PIN). The thick intrinsic regions are a difference to a normal PN Photodiode. PIN Photodiodes practical as Photodetectors, Attenuators and Radio frequency (RF) switches. The simple, low cost yet rugged structure of PIN Photodiodes is an advantage in Photodiode technology. These papers are separated in several section consists of the basic principle, characteristics, advantages and the recent technologies of PIN Photodiode. There will be a specific section on comparison between Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs) PIN Photodiode with Silicon (Si) PIN Photodiode.

Mohd Azlishah Othman; N. F. Mohd Zaid; M. Z. A. Abd Aziz; H. A. Sulaiman

This paper represents design of 3GHz hairpin filter with Defected Ground Structure (DGS) for Microwave Imaging application by using Advanced Design System (ADS) software and FR4 substrate. Hairpin filter is one of the most popular microwave filters because of its compactness. Thus, to enhance its performance detected ground structure is implemented to the filter. The filter is designed to operate at 3GHz frequency with fractional bandwidth of 6.67%. This project is designed and simulated by using Advenced Design Structure (ADS) and all the calculation is done on LineCALC the ADS tools. This project uses FR4 board as the substrate and it is fabricated by undergo etching process. Improvement is should be done to enhance the filter performance.

N. A. Hamid; Abdul Majid Darsono; N.A. Manap; R. A. Manap; H. A. Sulaiman

In recent years, many fast Block Matching Algorithm or known as BMA have been proposed and developed in order to reduce the computational cost while maintaining the quality of the video signal. In this paper, the algorithm proposed is called Orthogonal-Diamond Search (ODS) which employs an orthogonal-shaped search pattern in the first step and then is switched into diamond-shaped search pattern for the next step. The proposed algorithm and several established algorithms namely Three Step Search (TSS), New-Three-Step Search (NTSS), Four-Step Search (4SS), Diamond Search (DS) and Hexagon-Diamond Search (HDS) are implemented using MATLAB and their performance are being compared and analyzed in terms of number of search point, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and computational complexity. Simulation result show that the proposed algorithm can find motion vector with fever number of search points while maintains close performance of video quality with other selected algorithms.

This paper proposed a design of SDR Silicon IMPATT diode in lateral structure and analyzes the variable junction temperature analysis in Silicon IMPATT diode. The simulation on the effect of junction temperature on electric field and carrier mobility is carried out for Si SDR IMPATT structure designed at D-band frequency. Result show that electric field increases while the carrier mobility decreases in higher junction temperature.

In this paper, a single UWB Ice Cream Cone Antenna for Ultra Wide-Band (UWB) antenna have been proposed. This antenna was fabricated on FR4 substrate. The effect of varying parameter for length of rectangular has been studied. This antenna occupies the entire 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz spectrum band. The antenna characteristic suggested that return loss must below than -10dB, VSWR less than 2 throughout the entire band, lightweight planar profile and omnidirectional radiation pattern. The best antenna performance was obtained atthe size of 40 × 25mm2. The designs are simulated by using CST Microwave Studio Simulation and the measurement are successfully achieves UWB spectrum band requirement. Finally, an analysis and comparison between simulation result and measurement result has been conducted to investigate the effect of varying parameter for length of rectangular on antenna performance.

Mohd Azlishah Othman; S. Ruthrabathi; M. Z. A. Abd Aziz; H. A. Sulaiman; A. N. Che Pee; Mohd Fairuz Iskandar Othman; M. R. Kamaruddin

In this paper, an analysis was done by combining two separate antenna design into one which is the Bow-Tie design and the Ice-Cream cone design. This antenna was designed to operate at 120 GHz for millimetre wave application via CST Microwave Studio Simulation Software. An investigation was done on the antenna return loss and radiation efficiency to the new combined design. This antenna was designed on an Alumina substrate with a dielectric constant 8.8. The proposed antenna shows improvement in the radiation efficiency and the ability to operate at high frequency. Results of the simulation and the antenna design are presented as well.

Adaptive Diamond Orthogonal Search Algorithm for Motion Estimation

N. A. Hamid; Abd Majid Darsono; N.A. Manap; R. A. Manap; H. A. Sulaiman

Implementation of the Block Matching Algorithm (BMA) in a series of video codecs is due to its simplicity and high compression efficiency. Due to this, many fast search methods of BMAs are being introduced to increase the efficiency of the Motion Estimation process. This paper proposed a new algorithm, namely Adaptive Diamond Orthogonal Search Algorithm (ADOS) which employs three different search pattern for its two main stages.. At initial step, an additional step is added to predetermine static block to further speed up the search process as it is beneficial to small motion video sequence contents. The performances of the ADSS are being compared with three selected established algorithms, namely Full Search (FS), Diamond Search (DS) and Hexagon-Diamond Search (HDS). Based on the simulation result, the proposed algorithm yields fewer search points while maintaining close video quality performance with other algorithms.
