Tarnish layers are formed in the heat affected zone during the welding of steels and nickel based alloys. They commonly consist of oxides of the alloying elements. The corrosion behaviour of welded components is generally influenced by the thickness and composition of the oxide films. In the following the corrosion behaviour of annealed samples cut from NiMo28 and NiMo16Cr16Ti is investigated, correlating XPS, SNMS and SEM/EDX data to their pitting corrosion potentials.

Die durch das thermische Spritzen im Niederdruck aufgebrachten Schutzschichten, Bild 1, aus dem hochschmelzenden Sonderwerkstoff Tantal weisen keine ausreichende Korrosionsbestandigkeit auf. Als Grunde fur dieses ungunstige Verhalten konnen sowohl werkstoffbedingte Parameter, wie das Spritzpulver, das an der Oberflache mit Oxiden kontaminiert sein kann, als auch prozesbedingte, wie eine zu hohe Abkuhlrate der Spritzpartikel, angesehen werden.

As a model experiment for the corrosion behaviour of brazed joints in water pipes made of stainless steel, some tens ofμan broad joints made of three different brazes (Ag/Cu/In/Ni, Ag/Cu/Sn, Ag/Cu) were exposed to streaming water at different Cl− concentrations. The samples were polarized. The three-dimensional distribution of the corrosion products, obtained by Auger mapping and depth profiling, supplied some information about the corrosion behaviour of the joints.
