Abscisic acid in phytopathogenic fungi of the genera Botrytis, Ceratocystis, Fusarium, and Rhizoctonia

Karl Dörffling; Wolfgang Petersen; Ewald Sprecher; Irene Urbasch; Hans-Peter Hanssen

Strains of the phytopathogenic species Botrytis cinerea, Ceratocystis coerulescens, C.fimbriata, Fusarium oxysporum, and Rhizoctonia solani were cultivated on a defined synthetic culture medium. The plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) was identified by gas chromato- graphy/mass spectrometry and gas chromatography data, and the contents determined in mycelia (15.9-31.9 ng/g mycel) and culture media (1.0-4.6 ng/ml) by scintillation counting.

Association of N-acetyltransferase polymorphism and environmental factors with bladder carcinogenesis. Study in a north German population.

Hans-Peter Hanssen; Agarwal Dp; Goedde Hw; Bucher H; Hartwig Huland; Brachmann W; Ovenbeck R

The N-acetyltransferase phenotype was determined in 105 German patients with bladder carcinoma and in a control group of 42 healthy subjects. The slow phenotype was significantly more frequent among the patients (61.9% compared to 42.9% in the control group). Potential risk factors like occupational exposure, smoking habits, drug abuse and urological anamnestic predispositions were evaluated in relation to staging and grading of the disease, and acetylator phenotype.

Distribution of alpha-1-antitrypsin and haptoglobin phenotypes in bladder cancer patients

Heide-G. Benkmann; Hans-Peter Hanssen; Ovenbeck R; H. W. Goedde

Frequencies of the alpha 1-antitrypsin (Pi) alleles and haptoglobin phenotypes have been determined in a series of 264 North-German patients with bladder cancer. Compared to a healthy control population, we found a statistically significant decrease of Hp 2-2 phenotype in the patient series. A significant increase of the serum Pi Z allele, as previously shown for patient groups with certain other tumours, could also be confirmed for bladder cancer. Furthermore, a distinct association between a lowered M 3 allele and bladder carcinoma was observed.

Sesquiterpene alcohols with novel skeletons from the fungus ceratocystis piceae (ascomycotina)

Hans-Peter Hanssen; Wolf-Rainer Abraham

Abstract From agar cultures of the ascomycete Ceratocystis piceae Ha 4/82 two sesquiterpene alcohols with novel tricyclic skeletons 1 and 2 have been isolated (cerapicol and ceratopicanol). The biogenesis of the newly identified metabolites is briefly discussed.

New trans-fused africanols from leptographium lundbergii

Wolf-Rainer Abraham; Ludger Ernst; Ludger Witte; Hans-Peter Hanssen; Ewald Sprecher

Abstract Three new sesquiterpene alcohols with africanane skeleton - leptographiol ( 1 ), isoleptographiol ( 2 ), and isoafricanol ( 3 ) - have been isolated from Leptographium lundbergii Lag. et Mel.. Their structures and configurations were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, in particular by nuclear Overhauser enhancement difference 1H NMR spectra and by two-dimensional 1H/1H- and 13C/ 1 H- chemical shift correlation. The biosynthetic origin of 1 – 3 is briefly discussed.

Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons from Lentinus lepideus

Hans-Peter Hanssen

Abstract Several sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, mainly of the cadinane skeleton, have been identified in cultures of the brown rot fungus Lentinus lepideus. The main compounds are δ-cadinene, α- and γ-muurolene.

6-Protoilludene, the major volatile metabolite from ceratocystis piceae liquid cultures

Hans-Peter Hanssen; Ewald Sprecher; Wolf-Rainer Abraham

Abstract A newly isolated strain of the ascomycete Ceratocystis piceae was grown on defined synthetic liquid culture media. Volatiles were obtained by steam distillation or pentane extraction, and analysed by GC and GC/MS. 6-Protoilludene was found to be the major volatile constituent. Structure elucidation resulted from NMR data using 2D- 13 C/ 1 H-shiftcorrelation. The influence of different nitrogen sources on 6-protoilludene accumulation was investigated.

Sesquiterpene alcohols from Lentinus lepideus

Hans-Peter Hanssen

Abstract Several sesquiterpene alcohols, mainly possessing a 4,10-dimethyl-7-isopropyldecaline skeleton (cadinols, muurolols, cubenols), have been identified from synthetic liquid cultures of the brown rot fungus Lentinus lepideus . Besides these, trans, trans -farnesol and the bicyclofarnesol drimenol have been found.

Distribution and strain-dependent formation of volatile metabolites in the genus Ceratocystis

Ewald Sprecher; Hans-Peter Hanssen

The accumulation of volatile metabolites in cultures of 34 strains comprising ten species of the genus Ceratocystis (Ascomycetes) has been investigated under defined culture conditions. The identified compounds include short-chain alcohols and esters, lower terpenes, terpenoids, and 2-phenylethyl acetate. Certain species can be recognized by a number of common volatiles traced in all strains, although the quantities of these constituents may vary enormously (up to a factor 1:1000) within one species. The formation of some metabolites is restricted to a few strains.

Fusoxysporone - a new type of diterpene from fusarium oxysporum

Wolf-Rainer Abraham; Hans-Peter Hanssen

Abstract A novel diterpene, fusoxysporone 1 , was isolated from liquid cultures of the fungus Fusarium oxysporum IMB FO 18;2. The skeleton of 1 - related to the viscidane type - is described for the first time and named fusoxysporane. Additionally, fusaric acid and dehydrofusaric acid were identified in extracts of the culture medium.
