Polycrystalline KRS-5 optical fibers were experimentally demonstrated to have high-power transmission capabilities for a cw CO(2) laser beam. A typical sample of fibers provided by extrusion, 1 mm in diameter and 0.87 m in length, carried a laser power of 68 W to its output end and was found to remain free from damage at an incoming laser intensity up to 30 kW/cm(2).

High quality KCl optics were developed with the maximum size of 150 mm in diameter and 30 mm in thickness and tested successfully for high power CO2 laser, the power level being up to 20 KW in this program. They are based on with joining together of newly developed techniques which are the preparation of highly pure KCl crystals, the AR coating on the polished substrates and the design of mounting holder of coated optics.High quality KCl optics were developed with the maximum size of 150 mm in diameter and 30 mm in thickness and tested successfully for high power CO2 laser, the power level being up to 20 KW in this program. Abstract With the aim of accomplishing accurate energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis, we have developed a Si(Li) detector with the pulse processor and data processing system. The sophisticated application of the data processing system has been developed for the practical X-ray analysis by compiling the ZAF program and correction data obtained by Monte Carlo calculations for specific samples such as particulates.

Abstract A multi-channel solid state detector (MCSSD) has been developed and coupled with a data processing system. The prototype detector has 5 channels. Its position resolution is about 0.8 mm, the energy resolution is 600 eV, and the uniformity of detection efficiency for the channels is about 5%. This MCSSD has been used for measuring the effects of X-ray anomalous scattering and will be effective in using white X-rays for crystal structure analyses.
