Trends in Agriculture and Agribusiness

Hazel Cameron

ABSTRACT There has been a major shift from agriculture to agribusiness. Trade liberalization, deregulation, consumerization, market homogeneity, vertical integration, genetically modified crops (GMCs), frankenfood, stewardship, decommodification interdependence, and sophistication are current trends that have reshaped the industry. This paper outlines these key changes illustrating that information is important and can provide a powerful competitive edge. An annotated list of Web resources is included to help librarians satisfy the increasing need for information on a wide variety of topics for anyone interested in current agricultural developments.

Business Statistics on the Web: Find Them Fast—At Little or No Cost

index adds to the volume’s usefulness. Although largely aimed at the beginner to intermediate Microsoft Access user audience, the volume can be useful to more advanced users, especially the advanced, up-to-date Web and Internet features covered in chapters 9–15. In fact, these chapters may be a bit of a challenge for the beginner. Comparing this volume to two previous texts reveals that Access XP is more user-friendly and more extensive with 289 pages versus 188 pages in Using Microsoft Access and 104 pages in Using dBASE Version 5 for Windows. Another excellent guide, Using Microsoft Access 97, is an e-book that spans thirty-eight chapters, 781 pages, including appendix, glossary, and index. While comparable to Access XP, it does not address the XP upgrade but deals instead with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming language. Access XP is highly recommended for librarians and other professionals in the field of information technology. It is a valuable tool and is definitely worth the price.
