The new Ford Duratec 1.6 I Ti-VCT engine

A new variable cam timing variant of the 1.6 I Duratec gasoline engine known from Fiesta and Focus has further enhanced efficiency compared to the base engine. This Ti-VCT engine (Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing) offers less consumption as well as improved torque characteristics and peak power. This report leads through the design of the new engine. Furthermore the thermodynamical development of this concept is introduced.

Eine neue Variante des aus Fiesta und Focus bekannten 1,6-l-Duratec-Ottomotors mit variabler Ventilsteuerung ermoglicht eine nochmals gesteigerte Effizienz. Die Ti-VCT-Ausfuhrung des Motors (Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing) ermoglicht einen geringeren Verbrauch, eine fulligere Drehmomentcharakteristik und eine gesteigerte Nennleistung. Der vorliegende Bericht stellt den konstruktiven Aufbau dieses Motorkonzepts vor. Weiterhin wird auf die Besonderheiten der thermodynamischen Entwicklung naher eingegangen.
