We developed the software for PDA (Personal Digital As-sistant) equipped with GPS (Global Positioning System) to understand Haruskaichi-Shuku post town which prospered during the Edo period (1603~1867). There are very few old, traditional houses remaining in the region, so the town at that time could be experienced by walking through using the corrected old drawing map stored in PDA. People inter-ested in the history and culture of the region have found the technique to be very useful.

The objective of this study is to verify the possibility of restraining the formation of low dissolved oxygen water condition in the bottom layer of semi-enclosed bay by tidal current control. Firstly, Omaehama area in Osaka Bay was selected for case study area and detailed environmental investigation was conducted in order to clarify how limited tidal current affected the water quality in the region. Secondly, the feasibility of tidal current control as water quality remediation measures was studied by hydraulic simulation. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that anoxic water condition in semi-enclosed bay could be reduced by tidal current control by enhancing water exchange between the semi-closed area and outer sea and reducing the amount of organic suspended solids.

In Osaka Bay reclamation has taken place in a variety of forms. Reclamation has made narrow water area where water dose not exchange. And large mount of waste water that discharged into such area decline water quality. On the other hand such area is very important place because people can come in contact with the sea.We made study of environmental restoration technologies for such narrow water area. We made experiment on current control and water purification in Amagasaki canal and made restoration plan.
