Experimental hydrops caused by underabsorption of endolymphatic fluid is a model of remissional stage of Menieres disease. In this study, another type of model, ie, hydrops caused by overproduction of endolymphatic fluid, was accomplished by applying various pressures into scala media through a micropipette via stria vascularis. This type of hydrops could be a model of attacks of Menieres disease. By using two types of the model, effects of glycerol administration and of opening the endolymphatic sac were discussed.

A patient with chronic otitis media developed sensorineural hearing loss caused by ear drops containing an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Our study of this case indicates that the production of ototoxicity by ear drops in patient with chronic otitis media is influenced not only by drug factors such as volume, character, and local factors such as the nature of the otitis media, tubal function, degree of otorrhea, but also by patient factors, such as consciousness of hearing loss and correct understanding of the purpose and use of the otic solution.

The medical history of a patient plays an important role in diagnosing Menieres disease. However, as the patients history is usually restricted to what he can remember, it is often difficult to obtain a reliable picture of the first vertigeous attack and those that follow. Therefore, in order to determine the accurate course of Menieres disease, we had the patient keep a diary after the first visit. From the comparison between the subjective symptoms found by using the diary and objective findings obtained by using the audiometer, vestibular function test, etc, we could check whether the patients determination of symptoms was accurate or not. The following results were obtained.1. The memory of the accurate vertigeous date with Menieres disease was influenced by how long ago the attack occurred.2. As to the history of Menieres disease, not only the history based on the patients memory but also the subjective symptoms recorded in the diary were unreliable.

The analysis of physiological data on patients in the ward is essential for the study of their normal and pathological basis. Linked by cable to recording device, the patients are very limited in their movements. The telemetry method permits the study of the subject in real time and recording from unrestrained, behaving patients.Features of the telemetry system in our ENT-ward were described with some typical examples of the use. This technique, easy to use at night, offers a considerable progress in otolaryngologic clinic and research.
