A budget-constrained ECM decision algorithm for existing building retrofit

Hong-Soon Nam; Jin-Tae Kim; Taehyung Kim; Youn-Kwae Jeong; Ii-Woo Lee

This paper proposes a budget-constrained energy conservation measures (ECMs) decision algorithm, which is to optimize energy performance improvement within allowable budget for existing building retrofit. The energy performance of buildings can be improved by various measures including operation and maintenance improvements, retrofit activities or renewable energy sources. Thus, it is necessary for building owners or project managers to find the optimum combination of ECMs for their building retrofit and to determine the impacts of the selected ECMs. In addition, this paper describes the procedures of the proposed algorithm and analyzes the energy savings and payback period to verify the impacts of ECM implementations.

Implementation of energy performance assessment system for existing building

Youn-Kwae Jeong; Taehyung Kim; Hong-Soon Nam; Il-Woo Lee

In this paper, we describe the implementation of building energy performance assessment system to evaluate the energy performance of existing building for energy efficiency improvement by building remodeling. In consideration of the performance effect of building structure and operation, we created a stochastic building energy model based on ISO13790 and EN15232 building energy model. In order to make the model accurately, we adopted energy consumption data and Bayesian calibration method to predict the current value of uncertainty parameters according to aging related to various building components. Also, it can provide Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) for remodeling of existing building.

An efficient detection method for unknown wireless devices using SDR receivers

Hong-Soon Nam; Dae-Young Kim; Jong Won Park

In this paper, we describe an efficient detection method for unknown wireless devices using software defined radio (SDR) receivers, which is to estimate the position of unknown devices and their transmission power by sensing carrier frequency and measuring the received signal strengths (RSSs). RSS based positioning techniques are attractive for their low implementation complexity, but they are very sensitive to the path loss exponent in field environment. Most RSS based techniques calculate the position and transmission power of unknown devices assuming that the value of the path loss exponent is known before. However, the position estimation accuracy largely depends on the discrepancy of the path loss exponent. To improve the accuracy, the proposed method introduces a new process for the path loss exponent estimation when calculating the position and transmission power of unknown devices. The simulation results show that the proposed method has better position estimation accuracy compared with existing ones.

Rate-based traffic scheduling algorithm based on load measurement in ATM network

Dae-Woo Choi; Yoon-Young Ahn; Je-Chan Kim; Hong-Soon Nam; Yool Kwon; Hwa-Suk Kim

ATM switches should be able to control various kinds of traffic that require different levels of service quality. Generally, ATM switches prepare per-class buffers in line interface circuits or in the switch fabric, and schedule them to satisfy the service requirements. This paper proposes a traffic control algorithm for ATM switches that combines a rate-based cell-scheduler and switch load measurement. Our method generates test cells for each traffic connection, and measures the test cells entering interval and exiting interval to estimate the switch load. By estimation the switch load, we determine the scheduling rate of each connection. We also propose a rate-based cell-scheduling algorithm. Computer simulations have evaluated the proposed algorithms. Our method can be used to accommodate ABR, VBR, UBR, and future GFR services.
