Detection of thrombus in an aneurysm of the ventricular septum

Howard S. Bush; Emerson C. Perin; Ali Massumi; Robert J. Hall

Abstract Aneurysm of the membranous septum is one of the proposed mechanisms for spontaneous closure of a ventricular septal defect (VSD). Isolated reports have individually focused on the echocardiographic, 1 angiographic 2 and postmortem 3 findings in patients with aneurysms of the membranous interventricular septum. This report describes the unusual occurrence of a thrombus in an aneurysm of the ventricular septum. Multiple imaging modalities were used to determine the exact nature of the lesion.
