Electromagnetic shielding characteristics of woven fabrics made of hybrid yarns containing metal wire

Hüseyin Gazi Örtlek; Omer Galip Saracoglu; Oznur Saritas; Sinem Bilgin

In this study, electromagnetic shielding characteristics of woven fabrics made of hybrid yarns are investigated. For this purpose, initially the hybrid yarns containing stainless steel wire are produced with hollow spindle covering technique, and then eight different fabric samples are produced using these hybrid yarns. Electromagnetic shielding values of fabric samples are determined by a test set up based on enclosure measurement technique. Measurements are made in the frequency range of 30 MHz-9.93 GHz. Test results show that woven fabric samples investigated in this study have 25–65 dB electromagnetic shielding effectiveness for incident frequency. It was also shown that the direction, density and settlement type of conductive hybrid yarn in fabric structure are important parameters affecting electromagnetic shielding characteristics of woven fabrics.

Effect of Some Variables on Properties of 100% Cotton Vortex Spun Yarn

Hüseyin Gazi Örtlek; Sukriye Ulku

This paper examines the influence of various parameters such as delivery speed, nozzle pressures, and yarn count on the properties of vortex yarns produced using a Murata vortex spinning system. The results indicated that the delivery speed, nozzle pressure, and yarn count are all significant parameters for yarn evenness, imperfections, hairiness and tensile properties. Our findings show that increasing the delivery speed increases the hairiness and decreases the number of neps, and the tensile properties of vortex yarns. When the nozzle pressure increases, yarn unevenness, the number of thick places, the neps values, and the tensile properties of vortex yarns increases but the hairiness values of vortex yarns decreases. In general, the physical, the hairiness, and the tensile properties of coarser vortex yarns are better than finer yarns.

Determination of electromagnetic shielding performance of hybrid yarn knitted fabrics with anechoic chamber method

Hüseyin Gazi Örtlek; Tuba Alpyildiz; Gamze Kilic

The electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (SE) of various weft-knitted fabrics made of hybrid yarns is investigated by considering the anisotropy of the structures, which has not been analyzed in previous studies. The anechoic chamber with aperture method at different polarizations of electromagnetic waves within the frequency range of 30 MHz and 9.93 GHz is used to determine the SE of knitted fabrics manufactured on a circular weft knitting machine from siro-spun and siro core-spun yarns without and with a metal core. The results show that SE depends on the orientation of the fibers within the structure regarding the direction of the electrical field in addition to parameters such as metal content, loop length and frequency; these results can be used to outline the basic points in determining a knit structure with desired SE.

Effects of Spandex and Yarn Counts on the Properties of Elastic Core-spun Yarns Produced on Murata Vortex Spinner

Hüseyin Gazi Örtlek; Sukriye Ulku

The present research focused on the effects of spandex and yarn count parameters on the properties of elastic core-spun vortex yarns. The experiment and test results indicated that the various properties of elastic core-spun vortex yarns were significantly affected by spandex and yarn count. Coarser yarns showed lower unevenness, imperfection and breaking elongation values than finer yarns. Core-spun vortex yarns containing spandex showed lower tenacity and higher breaking elongation values than vortex spun yarns. The liveliness of spandex affected the hairiness properties of core-spun vortex yarns. The number of fibers in the cross section and the liveliness of spandex must be evaluated together during the manufacturing process of elastic core-spun vortex yarns.

Assessing colour differences of viscose fabrics knitted from vortex-, ring- and open-end rotor-spun yarns after abrasion

Hüseyin Gazi Örtlek; Mustafa Tutak; Gaye Yolacan

The colour values of fabric samples that are knitted from vortex-spun (VS), open-end rotor-spun and ring-spun yarns were evaluated after abrasion. We measured the changes of colour properties of each sample, considering spinning system, dyeing concentration and abrasion cycle, which have effects on colour values. The colour values of dyed fabrics knitted from ring spun yarns showed less change after abrasion than that of dyed fabrics knitted from open-end rotor-spun and VS yarns, when the spinning systems were compared. The colour values of dyed fabrics knitted from VS yarns showed more changes after abrasion because of the smooth surface of VS yarns.

Yıkama İşlemlerinin Denim Kumaşların Fiziksel Özellikleri Üzerindeki Etkileri

Nida Yildirim; Sümeyye Üstüntağ; Hüseyin Gazi Örtlek

In this study, the effects of rinse, stone and bleaching washing treatments on some physical properties of denim fabrics, which were produced with different weft-warp types, were interpreted statistically. The results show that weft-warp type, washing treatment and interaction of these two factors have a significant influence on thickness, weight, color change and air permeability values of denim fabrics with 95% significance level.

Bakır Tel İçeren Kompozit İpliklerin Fiziksel Özellikleri Üzerine Karşılaştırmalı Bir Çalışma

Hüseyin Gazi Örtlek; Çiğdem Çalışkan; Rıfat Kurban

Some problems occur especially in respect of wearing and aesthetic comfort, when different metals are used, bare or hybrid yarn form to produce functional fabrics. The aim of this study is to investigate the physical properties of hybrid yarns containing copper wire which are produced with 5 different production methods at three different twist levels. In this study, tenacity, breaking elongation and Young modulus values of hybrid yarns were evaluated comparatively. Also copper visibility ratio (CVR) values of hybrid yarns on the fabric surface were de- termined by using image thresholding method in CIELab color space.
