Design of DPWS Adaptor for Interoperability between Web Services and DPWS in Web Services on Universal Networks

Hyung-Jun Yim; Il-Jin Oh; Yun-Young Hwang; Kyu-Chul Lee; Kangchan Lee; Seung-Yun Lee

In ubiquitous computing, clients should be able to use any kinds of services whenever and wherever they are. Service has the same quality without concerned with characteristics such as the status and location of services or devices. Because the characteristics are dynamically changed, a sub-network is difficult to reflect all the changes. So, there are various sub-networks. It is necessary to integrate communication between sub-networks with interoperability. For this reason, a system must support data transmission and conversion. It also has to indicate dynamic detection of the sub-network service by events and notifications. So, we introduced WSUN environment which is composed of US Broker, US registry and UniA for using universal service. This paper designs the DPWS Adaptor for providing universal service through operational scenario of DPWS.

The clients, in ubiquitous environment, want to be consistently offered services at any time and in any places. There are so many service discovery middleware such as Jini, UPnP and HAVi. Each one of them supports different communication protocol. Therefore, when the clients ask an inquiry of service search, they have to support communication protocol of all service discovery middleware. Namely, all the cost shall be borne by the customer. In addition, these middleware does not consider the service location and status. To solve these problems, we suggest the SOA-based framework is Web Services on Universal Networks. The framework supports a dynamic service discovery through the interoperability between service discovery middleware. Furthermore, it considers service location and status at service discovery process.

A DLNA-Based Efficient Mechanism for Interconnecting Mobile Devices in Ubiquitous Environments

Hyung-Jun Yim; Kyu-Chul Lee

Mobile devices are increasingly assuming an important role in ubiquitous environments. This paper proposes a DLNA-based efficient mechanism which aims to hide the heterogeneity of hardware, software, data formats and communication protocols. The proposed our architecture enables user applications to interact with data from a wide range of networked services/devices using a high-level, abstract interface that features Web Services standards.

Task-Based Services Composition for Ubiquitous Computing

Hyung-Jun Yim; Yun-Young Hwang; Kyu-Chul Lee

In order to satisfy incremental business demands, it is often required to combine functionalities of several services together. The semantic web provides the infrastructure for composition of service functionalities, and it aims to create ontology-based and machine-process able the content. In addition, by applying semantic web technologies, many research works have been investigated to support automatic service composition. Despite of the significant results being achieved, the task of service composition is still challenging and complex issue. In this paper, we will introduce our approach for developing ontology based on SCDL(Service Composition Description Language) and the MIT process handbook, called u-TO(universal task ontology), which can be used for users describing and specifying semantically their needs. Our task ontology (u-TO) can be then transformed into executable business processes by underlying systems. In addition, it aims at facilitating the modeling of complex demands or systems without regarding details of technical aspects of underlying infrastructure.

A Bluetooth Adaptor for interoperability between Bluetooth and heterogeneous networks

Hyung-Jun Yim; Dong-Ho Ryu; Hyun Woo Lee; Kyu-Chul Lee

Ubiquitous Environments are defined that any user can discover and execute any service of any device in anywhere and at any time. In these days, there are many ubiquitous services such as Jini, DPWS, HAVi, and so on. They use different communication protocols and need different execution environments. Thus any ubiquitous service cannot find and execute ubiquitous services. Now days, lots of Bluetooth devices are issued on market and many people use them. If Bluetooth device can use a heterogeneous service in other network, user has a chance to use a variety of services what they want. In this paper, the Bluetooth Adaptor is designed and implemented. The Bluetooth Adaptor provides the interoperability between web services and Bluetooth services.

A self-organizing two-way DPWS adaptor for adaptive interoperability of multiple heterogeneous services

Hyung-Jun Yim; Yun-Young Hwang; Kyu-Chul Lee

Although distributed middleware technologies such as UPnP, Jini, HAVi and DPWS generally feature the same goals, many different factors are also isolated from each other. This paper outlines a self-organizing two-way DPWS adaptor which aims to provide the adaptive interoperability of multiple heterogeneous services in pervasive computing. The proposed infrastructure employs Devices Profile for Web Services (DPWS) as the underlying integration technology. The mean of self-organizing involves obtaining the metadata of the DPWS devices and DPWS-hosted services automatically to provide other distributed middleware clients with DPWS-hosted services. A prototype implementation of the DPWS adaptor is also presented and the paper concludes with general remarks and a discussion of future works.

Zigbee Adaptor for Two-way Data/Event/Service Interoperation in Internet of Things

Moon-Ki Back; Hyung-Jun Yim; Kyu-Chul Lee

Things in the IoT(Internet of Things) make various services by exchanging information over networks. The IoT includes many types of WSNs(Wireless Sensor Networks) that consists of spatially distributed wireless sensor nodes and operates with the various purposes with useful technologies such as identification, sensing and communication. Typically, Zigbee network composed of low-cost and lowpower devices is mainly used for wide-area monitoring and remote device control systems. The IoT composed of various WSNs cannot interoperate among networks because of heterogeneous communication protocol and different data representation of each network, but can facilitate interconnection and information exchange among networks via the DDS, which is communication middleware standard that aims to enable real-time, high performance and interoperable data exchanges. In this paper, we proposed design of Zigbee Adaptor for two-way interoperation and data exchange between Zigbee network and other networks in the IoT. Zigbee Adaptor communicates with Zigbee network according to the Zigbee protocol and communicates with external networks via DDS. DDS-based Zigbee Adaptor can facilitate interoperation between a Zigbee network and external networks by systematic cooperation among its components.

Two-way DLNA Adaptor for Interconnecting Media Contents in Internet of Things

Hyung-Jun Yim; Kyu-Chul Lee

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a concept that describes environments where various things are connected to the Internet. These objects can identify themselves and allow other devices the identify them as well. DLNA focuses on delivering interoperability guidelines based on open industry standards in order to complete cross-industry digital convergence. This paper proposes a two-way DLNA Adaptor and addresses the methodologies of service interoperation of the media contents. In this paper, the designs of the components of the DLNA Adaptor are presented, and the conclusion provides general remarks and a discussion of future work.

The Universal Adaptor for Dynamic Ubiquitous Services Discovery and Binding

Yun-Young Hwang; Hyung-Jun Yim; Il-Jin Oh; Kyu-Chul Lee

Ubiquitous is defined that any users can discover and execute any services of any devices in anywhere and at anytime. Actually, there are many ubiquitous services such as Jini services, DPWS services and HAVi services. They support different communication protocol and have execution environment. It brings on some problems about discovery and binding of ubiquitous services. A user in one sub-network cannot find and use the services in another sub-network. To be realized ubiquitous, we need broker which support universal discovery and binding protocol and independent execution environment. In addition, it considers dynamic services location and status information. In this paper, we introduce Universal Adaptor in the Universal Services Broker, which support interoperability between any services.
