Estimation of wood volume and height of olive tree plantations using airborne discrete-return LiDAR data

The aim of this study is to analyze methodologies based on airborne LiDAR (light detection and ranging) technology of low pulse density points (0.5 m−2) for height and volume quantification of olive trees in Viver (Spain). A total of 29 circular plots, each with a radius of 20 m, were sampled and their volumes and heights were obtained by dendrometric methods. For these estimations, several statistics derived from LiDAR data were calculated in each plot. Regression models were used to predict volume and height. The results showed good performance for estimating volume (R2 = 0.70) and total height (R2 = 0.67).

Physicochemical composition and antioxidant activity of several pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) cultivars grown in Spain

Abstract Nine pomegranate cultivars grown in Spain were selected, and their physicochemical (total soluble solids, pH, titratable acidity, maturity index, monomeric anthocyanin pigment, flavonoids, hydrolyzable tannins, and vitamin C) and antioxidant properties and polyphenolic composition of the juices were compared. A total of 53 polyphenols were identified, showing cultivars different profiles. Of all nine cultivars, Katirbasi had the highest contents of flavonoids, hydrolyzable tannins and vitamin C, as well as gallic acid and ellagic acid contents, explaining its high total reducing capacity. Principal component analysis allowed Katirbasi to be differentiated clearly from the others. Other cultivars presented also interesting characteristics such as high monomeric anthocyanin pigment content (CG8 cultivar) and interesting antioxidant activity (Wonderful 2 and CG8 cultivars). CG8 was the cultivar with the highest value of cyanidin-3,5-di-O-glucoside. Thus, this study will assist pomegranate producers in choosing the most suitable cultivar according to its ultimate use.

Aplicación de la evaluación On-line en asignaturas de contenido morfológico

El uso de metodologias activas y por tanto participativas del alumnado, atribuyen significados practicos a los contenidos y fomentan la participacion del alumno. Permite el compromiso en la construccion del conocimiento implicandose en el uso de materiales de iniciacion aportados y disenados por el profesorado pero que el alumno de forma autonoma, tanto individual como colectivamente, ira ampliando y completando para posteriormente pasar a un foro aquellos documentos y comentarios que por retroalimentacion y con participacion tutorial se van elaborando. Este material si es necesario se completara, pero esta posible ampliacion sera realizada, tras la exposicion publica en aula y ante todos los companeros. De forma que el trabajo es evaluado por el colectivo alumnos-profesores (en un minimo de dos) o en su caso mediante valoracion On-line de las aportaciones realizadas por los alumnos. Posteriormente esta documentacion tras las aportaciones colaborativas de todo el grupo de alumnos, sera subido a la plataforma de recursos on line. Ello sera la base documental generada sobre el tema concreto con vistas a las evaluaciones continuas del alumnado y en su caso el material base para la evaluacion global o recuperativa para determinados alumnos del grupo. Por lo tanto, la accion sera crear una documentacion base por parte del profesor, someterla a trabajo de un alumno concreto que enviara al colectivo (conjunto de alumnos y profesor), el cual de forma colaborativa ampliaran para posteriormente someterla a un foro mas amplio en la plataforma. De esta forma conseguiremos una retroalimentacion que conducira a una documentacion participativa eficiente, que es el objetivo buscado en este trabajo. Esta documentacion generada servira para la evaluacion continua y personalizada de los actuantes, pero tambien sera la base para la evaluacion global de la tematica o de la asignatura para el alumnado no participativo.
