Abstract Uniform temperature control of heating plate with a wide thermal conduction area is required in many industrial application fields. In this paper, a novel approach for uniform heating based on the physical property of thermal conduction is proposed. The main idea of the proposed scheme is to control the average and gradient temperatures between arbitrary points whereas in conventional way direct PID control is applied for each heating points. The control system provides the good uniformity not only in steady state but also in transient state. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the scheme, some experimental results are shown and evaluated.

Uniform temperature control of heating plate, which has a wide thermal conduction area, is required in many industrial application fields. In this paper, a new method of uniform temperature control is proposed based on an idea of quasi-decoupling. The feature of the proposed method is easy to design a control system without the precise plant dynamics. The controller is designed using the gradient and average of temperature among the arbitrary points. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is confirmed by experiment.

For energy-conservation in temperature control, the overshoot should be decreased. To overcome this, we newly developed a function to adjust the overshoot against disturbances. In this paper, this new control system for adjusting the overshoot against disturbance is described. as well as the test results to show the overshoot suppression effects in packing machine temperature control. As a result, we confirm that this new control system can realize a 50% reduction of the time takes until the temperature gets stable.
