Cumulative Tin-Weighting of Silk with Stannic Chloride:

Ikuzo Sakaguchi

In tin-weighting of silk, the weight of the silk increases directly with the number of times the process is repeated (cumulative tin-weighting). When the tin-weighting processs repeated n times, the total volume x of stannic-acid gels deposited in a minute hole of a porous, nonswelling grain can be expressed by x = v(l-yn), where v is the volume of the original pore and y is the remaining volume of the pore after the first tin-weighting process. If v = 1, then y < 1 always. The results can be applied to the cumulative tin-weighting of silk
