P2P Network Simulation System for Performance Evaluation in Convergence Networks

Yu-Doo Kim; Il-Young Moon

P2P(peer to Peer) network is a distributed network architecture composed of participants that make a portion of their resources directly available to other network participants, without the need for a central server. Currently, convergence network industry using wired and mobile are grows rapidly. So P2P protocols will be used between mobile and wired network. But current P2P protocols are focused on the wired networks only and there are no simulators for performance analysis of mobile P2P. In this paper, we design a P2P simulation system for performance analysis of P2P protocols in mobile, wired and convergence networks. It is constructed by a well-known mobile network simulator and wired based P2P protocol simulator. Finally we have implemented a smart TV test-bed using our P2P test-bed for convergence networks.

Study of Multiple Interface Control and Dynamic Delivery Model for Seamless Mobile Transportation

Seon-Ung Lee; Il-Young Moon

We propose a seamless IPTV transport technology of mobile device. This technology uses multiple interfaces of wireless communication on mobile device. This proposal for transportation of mobile IPTV contents is more mobile and adaptable than other wireless technologies that are currently being used. Algorithm of proposed technology is as follow. When the signal strength of the connected wireless network interface of mobile device is getting lower than specified level, another wireless network interface is connected to continue downloading the IPTV contents in advance. Another connection is maintained until the signal strength of the first connected interface is stable or the interface is connected to another base station (or AP) that have good signal strength. For more seamless services, we consider classifying the packets of mobile IPTV and using dynamic content quality select techniques. Dynamic content quality selection is based on notifying transfer rate to the content delivery network (CDN) server. The proposed technology is expected to use efficiently with both mobile IPTV and the transportation of mobile P2P/P4P.

Design and Implementation of Super-peer P2P Overlay Network Protocol and System for mobile IPTV

Yu-Doo Kim; Il-Young Moon

Recent researches of network structure are moving to high-level networks because there are already many research results of low-level network. Especially, current network services has been changed to the multimedia service using multicast routing such as IPTV(Internet Protocol Television) service. And then previous multicast services were provider oriented. So previous multicast structures were organized server/client model. But future multicast services will make user oriented services. Therefore there will be many service providers in the future. At this point, we study P2P network for supporting multi provider. So we research load balancing and contents lookup protocols in P2P network. In this paper, we propose network protocol and system based on super peer P2P for load balancing and efficiently service search. And we considered mobile environment for mobile IPTV.

Research on Virtual Network for Virtual Mobile Network

Jong-Seo Lee; Il-Young Moon

In recent years, Network Virtualization has become a big issue which is utility computing, grid computing and cloud computing. Network virtualization provides the feasibility of running multiple architectures also, it can diversify the future Internet Architecture into separate virtual networks according to different applications and requirement. Previous researches focus on only virtual network in wired network or wireless network. In this paper we introduce virtualization technology in the network environment and Virtual Mobile Network based on Virtual Network.

A new backoff scheme of IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks

Il-Young Moon; Hwi-Jin Ye; Sung-Joon Cho

In this paper, we have analyzed TCP packet transmission time of IEEE 802.11 MAC DCF protocol for wireless LANs a proposed enhanced backoff algorithm. It is considered the transmission time of TCP packet on the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in AWGN channel. Also, to simulate wireless LANs system, we have assumed that three stations are operated, respectively. From the results, a proposed enhanced backoff algorithm produces a better performance than an original backoff in wireless LAN environment. Also, in OFDM/QPSK (12 Mbps and 18 Mbps) channel, we can achieve that the transmission time in wireless channel decreases as the TCP packet size increases and we can infer the correlation between packet size and the transmission time, allowing for an inference of the optimal packet size in the TCP layer

Performance analysis of WAP in bluetooth ad-hoc network system

Il-Young Moon

In this paper, it has analyzed performance enhancement for WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) in Bluetooth network system using a multi-slot segmentation scheme. In order for SAR to improve the transfer capability, the transmission of messages have been simulated using a fragmentation scheme that begins with the total package and incremental fragmentation for each layer using the WTP (Wireless Transaction Protocol) to define the resultant packet size and the level of fragmentation for each proceeding layer. The data is divided into individual packets at the baseband level. This scheme decreases transmission time of L2CAP (Logical Link Control And Adaptation Protocol) baseband packets by sending packets that span multiple slots. From the results, it was able to obtain packet transmission time and optimal WTP packet size for WAP in Bluetooth network system.

A study of QoS-aware MAC protocol with network adaptation

Hwi-Jin Ye; Moon Seok Kim; Il-Young Moon; Sung-Joon Cho

A number of QoS-aware medium access control (MAC) schemes have been introduced to extend the legacy IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol which has not guaranteed any service differentiation. However, none of those schemes fulfill both QoS features and channel efficiency although these support the service differentiation based on priority. This paper presents a novel MAC scheme for enhancements of both QoS and medium efficiency. In the proposed scheme, referred to as enhanced distributed coordination function with network adaptation (EDCF-NA), we modify the existing backoff algorithm and employ a new mechanism called inter frame space (IFS) control. These newly developed methods use smart factors denoted by ACK rate, which is involved by the entire network faults such as collisions and drops, and network load threshold (TH). In addition, our approaches are evaluated by NS-2 simulations and compared the performance of other MAC protocols

Web Based CDN Structure for Smart Devices

Yu-Doo Kim; Il-Young Moon

The rapid growth of telecommunication technology has led to the development of many smart devices. In particular, the smartphone market has been growing rapidly following the development of third-generation telecommunication technology. As a result, most people are expected to use a smartphone within a few years. Furthermore, the market for smart devices such as tablets and smart TVs are growing rapidly. Therefore, most people are expected to own various smart devices within a few years. However, current Contents Delivery Network (CDN) network systems are focused on a desktop PC platform, which can be problematic for smart devices. In this paper, we analyze the performance of Web browsing speed in smart mobile devices. Through this results, we propose web based CDN network structure.
