This paper aimed to investigate the effect of canyon design (ratios of height to width and length to height) of housing estates in warm humid tropical region of Surabaya to the type of wind and its potential to generate night ventilation. Fluent Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) version 6.2 was used as the simulation tool to determine the potential of wind velocity around the building from 05.00 p.m. to 06.00 a.m. The results showed that skimming and wake interference flows were the wind types of those housing estates and that the latter had the potential for night ventilation
