MPEG-2 transport system (TS) and ISO base media file format (ISOBFF) standards developed by MPEG have been widely used by various industries and applications including digital broadcasting systems. Recently MPEG has developed a new standard, MPEG Media Transport or MMT, for next generation broadcasting system considering the emerging convergence of digital broadcasting network and the Internet. MMT assumes HTML5 and Internet protocol (IP) as deployment environment and inherits major features of MPEG-2 TS while simplifying unnecessary complicated features in IP environments. It also considers hybrid delivery of multi-screen services. MMT defines an application layer protocol enabling packetization of opaque objects or files without considering the structure of data and media processing unit (MPU) format specific packetization. Synchronization technology of MMT providing flexible synchronization of multimedia components delivered through hybrid environment over multiple devices is built on top of HTML5.

Adaptive HTTP Streaming solutions are phasing out traditional online video distribution solutions such as progressive download. MPEG DASH is an open standardized solution that has been developed to minimize solution fragmentation and to ensure quick market adoption. However, the openness of the standard loosens the grip of content providers on the client behavior and may threaten the success of the whole ecosystem. This paper proposes a content fingerprinting and verification mechanism for restricting the clients playback behavior in such an open environment by using a very light weight Eigen thumbnail appearance differential fingerprinting. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

MPEG DASH is a client driven, pull based, adaptive streaming technology that allows for quality and bandwidth trade offs at streaming times. This is especially useful for mobile and Over The Top (OTT) video streaming applications, as throughput variations are inevitable. However, when multiple DASH clients are sharing a common wireless bottleneck with under-provisioned resources, e.g., multiple devices sharing the same home cable connection, or multiple UEs sharing the radio resource served by the same base station, simple adaptation within the same traffic session is not enough and may lead to sub-optimal solutions. In this work, we introduce new Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics for DASH sub-representations, and propose a marginal utility maximization-based resource pricing scheme to coordinate multiple video traffic sharing the bottleneck resource. The solution is based on the DASH SAND (Server And Network assisted DASH) messaging framework. Simulation results demonstrate the QoE multiplexing gains from this solution, and the pricing control scheme is adopted in SAND messages.
