A design of a streaming system for interactive television broadcast

This paper describes architecture of a streaming system for interactive digital television broadcast, using MPEG-4/7 technology in delivering interactive services. The streaming system complies with ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) Digital Television Standard, and delivers data of all types in ATSC Data Broadcast specification. The streaming system provides transport streams conforming to MPEG-2 systems, and has been implemented on the basis of software, and in several parts in hardware.

Collaborative object sharing for multimedia operating system (COSMOS): a framework for real-time multimedia group presentation

Current multimedia group presentation environments such as video conference systems, remote presentation and shared workspaces are typically developed as self-contained applications, i.e. without much support from operating systems. However, newly developed operating systems have a framework to support multimedia data processing but these are still not enough for multimedia group presentations. To resolve this problem, we present a framework for designing an extended operating system called COSMOS (Collaborative Object Sharing for Multimedia Operating System). The framework provides concurrent and distributed multimedia data processing, fine grained synchronization, real-time data flow management, presentation, session and shared object management of multimedia CSCW applications. The framework can be useful for either designing customized multimedia servers for playback machines or application developments using its API.
