Train comfort, access and security using KNX and LOGO! controllers

Ioan Valentin Sita

This paper describes the use of new generation of LOGO! controllers and KNX devices in creating more comfortable, safe and secure automation systems for train passengers. These systems assure all the requirements for the passenger railway wagons and offer to the technicians a more user friendly interface accessible from the every point of the train. The communication between the automation cabinets and between the wagons is made on the KNX bus.

Efficient implementation of sliding mode control for BLDC PM motor using TMS320F28335 microcontroller

Mirela Dobra; Ioan Valentin Sita; Petru Dobra

The sliding mode control (SMC) approach is reconsidered for the three phase brushless direct current motor with permanent magnets (BLDC PM). For mathematically matching the SMC to BLDC PM, brief discussion is also made on the mathematical modelling of the BLDC PM motor. The speed control loop for electric drive with BLDC PM is tested especially for load torque variation that will be assumed as additive uncertainty. The loop control implementation uses the TMS320F28335 microcontroller with special processing facilities for electric drive signals. The final target is to validate a fast procedure of setting up the speed/position control loop with a simple starting SMC algorithm. Test results using different valued parameters of the proposed SMC support the rapid prototyping procedure.

Rapid control prototyping toolbox for the Stellaris LM3S8000 microcontrollers

Radu Duma; Petru Dobra; Ioan Valentin Sita; Dorin Petreus

The paper presents a rapid control prototyping toolbox for the Texas Instruments Stellaris LM3S8000 family of microcontrollers. The toolbox generates real-time C code for the Stellaris LM3S8000 family of microcontrollers and integrates other four libraries: I/O drivers, Digital Motor Control (DMC), Controller Area Network (CAN) and LM3S8000 Target Preferences. A practical application for the control of a DC motor is presented.

Building Energy Simulation with On-Site Weather Station

Radu Manescu; Ioan Valentin Sita; Petru Dobra

Energy consumption awareness and reducing consumption are popular topics. Building energy consumption counts for almost a third of the global energy consumption and most of that is used for building heating and cooling. Building energy simulation tools are currently gaining attention and are used for optimizing the design for new and existing buildings. For O&M phase in existing buildings, the multiannual average weather data used in the simulation tools is not suitable for evaluating the performance of the building. In this study an existing building was modeled in EnergyPlus. Real on-site weather data was used for the dynamic simulation for the heating energy demand with the aim of comparing the measured energy consumption with the simulated one. The aim is to develop an early fault detection tool for building management.

Neural Temperature Control in a Water Cylinder

Ioan Valentin Sita; Vlad Muresan

In this paper is presented a solution for controlling the temperature in a water cylinder, used for supplying a building with domestic hot water. Automatic temperature adjustment is achieved by using a neural controller in order to provide superior control performances provided by classical controllers. Also, the used control strategy is based on the use of reference model of the expressed process. Simulation control structure is done both in the absence, as well as in case of interference signals.

Digital Motor Control Library

Radu Duma; Petru Dobra; Mirela Trusca; Ioan Valentin Sita

The paper present Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP) libraries for Matlab/Simulink, which are used to generate real-time C code for the Renesas M32C87 microcontroller. The libraries are integrated in the toolbox Target for Renesas M32C87. Simulink blocks are implemented for drivers and algorithms specific for the Renesas M32C87 microcontroller. The toolbox contains five libraries: I/O drivers, Digital Motor Control (DMC), Controller Area Network (CAN) and Serial Communication Interface (SCI). In this paper the DCM library is described in detail. A positioning application for a Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machine is implemented using the Renesas M32C87 microcontroller.

Interfacing City Resources Management System with SIMATIC WinCC

Ioan Valentin Sita; Alin C. Fărcaş

Abstract This paper describes the use of the SIMATIC WinCC software for interfacing City Resources Management System by using a network implemented with high performance industrial programmable logic controllers. This system assure all the requirements of operating the energy resources in a city with the industrial precision and offer to the building occupants an interface with the capability of been accessible from every place of the building. The communication between programmable logic controllers and servers, WinCC use the Industrial Ethernet Protocol, fact that make the monitoring and control of the building accessible from distance clients. Also this type of communication interface permits future expansions and interconnections between other buildings for energy exchanges and resources management.

Household Water Tank Temperature Control

Ioan Valentin Sita; Petru Dobra; Mirela Dobra; Vlad Muresan

This paper presents an identification solution of the thermal process corresponding to a heating installation of domestic water in a tank and the temperature control. For experimental identification the tangent and Coon Cohen methods were applied, and for control Cohen Coon criterion, Oppelt criterion, respectively modulus criterion. We performed a comparison of the overall performance of each controller.

Universal Communication Node for Building Automation Systems

Ioan Valentin Sita; Petru Dobra

This paper describes the implementation of a Universal Communication Node for building automation systems, which interconnect the sensors and actuators using different communication technologies. A simple protocol addressing the various devices in the automation network and a mechanism for the management of the messages exchanged between different devices were implemented. As communicating elements in the building automation network we used two customized boards based on ATmega328 microcontroller. For wire communication we used the technologies RS-232, RS-485, Ethernet and for wireless Bluetooth, Zigbee, nRF24L01, RF12B, WiFi, GSM/GPRS and Infrared.
