Effectiveness of various UV-absorbers on the dyeing of polyester with disperse dyes. Part IV.

E. Tsatsaroni; A.H. Kehayoglou; Ioannis Eleftheriadis; L.E. Kyriazis

The effect of benzotriazole type UV-absorbers Tinuvin P and Tinuvin 327 and 2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone in the dyeing of polyester fabrics with C.I. Disperse Yellow 86 and C.I. Disperse Red 86 at various depths of dyeing was studied. Various amounts and two application processes of the UV-absorber were used. The dye and UV-absorber uptake, and the light and sublimation fastness of the fabrics dyed and those treated with the UV-absorber were determined and the results compared with those obtained with the corresponding samples dyed in absence of a UV-absorber.

Effect of Wet Treatments on Color Fastness of Naturally Colored Cotton

E. Tsaliki; U. Kechagia; Ioannis Eleftheriadis; F. Xanthopoulos

ABSTRACT Naturally colored cotton fibers are of interest in the textile industry because they require no dyeing and result in less environmental pollution. In this study wet scouring with conventional caustic solutions NaOH and NaCO3 as well as enzyme treatments were performed on upland white and brown naturally pigmented cotton fibers to evaluate color fastness of the latter using the CIE L*, a*, b* color system. For all treatments L* values were alike in both cottons tested while a color shift towards darker brown resulted in colored cotton only and enzymatic activity improved overall performance.

Screen-Printing of Cotton with Natural Pigments: Evaluation of Color and Fastness Properties of the Prints

Georgios Savvidis; Vaggelis Karanikas; Maria Zarkogianni; Ioannis Eleftheriadis; Nikolaos Nikolaidis; Eforia Tsatsaroni

ABSTRACT Eleven natural pigments were selected for the production of environment-friendly cotton prints. Physicochemical properties pH, conductivity, viscosity of the printing pastes were measured in order to evaluate their stability and suitability for printing. Quality control standard tests and color measurements were carried out for all the prints with their fastness properties ranging from poor to very good in some cases.
