Bullous hemorrhagic dermatosis induced by enoxaparin is a rare, self-limiting, cutaneous adverse reaction causing no complications. In this report, we present a case where bullous hemorrhagic dermatosis developed at a location distant from the site of injection after using enoxaparin for 5 days for pulmonary venous thrombosis.

Prurigo pigmentosa (PP) is a rare inflammatory skin disease. Neutrophil‐mediated inflammation is considered to be responsible for the etiopathogenesis of PP. We consider that colchicine may be an effective agent in the treatment of PP since it exerts an antiinflammatory effect by inhibiting neutrophil chemotaxis. Further studies are required to verify whether colchicine is an effective treatment option for PP.

© 2017 Indian Dermatology Online Journal | Published by Wolters Kluwer Medknow A 1‐year‐old girl was brought to our clinic by her parents with the complaint of papulosquamous lesions covered with hemorrhagic crusts on the anterior trunk. The patient had developed erythematous squamous plaques on the scalp, inguinal region, and the face at the age of 3 months. The patient was given a therapy of topical steroids and oral antihistaminic drugs. However, the lesions did not resolve. Dermatological examination revealed papulosquamous papules and plaques covered with hemorrhagic crusts on the scalp, skin folds, and on the anterior trunk [Figure 1]. SkIndia Quiz 40

For reprints contact: [email protected] A 45‐year‐old woman presented to our clinic with itchy erythematous lesions distributed on the left wrist, right knee, and back. The patient had been prescribed levocetirizine 5 mg/day due to allergic rhinitis. One day after taking the first dose of levocetirizine, the patient noticed a burning sensation and itching, followed by patchy plaques. Patient history revealed that, within the last two years, the patient had developed similar lesions four times after using levocetirizine for allergic rhinitis. Skin examination revealed multiple well‐defined erythematous patchy lesions distributed on the dorsum of the right hand, left hand wrist, and right knee [Figures 1 and 2]. Skin biopsy was performed from the lesions on the left arm. Histopathologic examination showed eosinophilic spongiosis in the epidermis, vacuolar changes in the basal layer, and perivascular infiltrate of lymphocytes, accompanied by eosinophil leukocytes in the upper dermis [Figure 3]. The diagnosis of FDE was established based on the clinical findings, clinical history of the patient, and the histopathologic findings.

Procedures form an inextricable part of the dermatologist’s practice. When first undertaking a new procedure, novices are often daunted by the steep learning curve in the first few months, an experience we (the authors) empathise with. The use of fruit and vegetables may lessen some of the stress and enhance a sense of fulfilment in the nascent proceduralist. Bananas, the most popular fruit in the Western world, provide a readily available curved surface with intrinsic layers on which newly appointed registrars can practise suturing. Mohs fellows can practise removing surgical ‘debulks’ and taking bevelled, uniformly thin Mohs layers, an initially alien concept to the recently graduated dermatology registrar that will become increasingly familiar during their training. For the new laser practitioner, aubergines provide a ready source of water-rich material that provides an ideal medium on which to practise ablative laser surgery, including with devices such as the carbon dioxide laser. The purple skin of the aubergine provides a clearly visible surface that can be ablated and give an indication of the depth of penetration and the extent of fractionation. Furthermore, aubergines do not tend to explode on being vaporised – an important, pragmatic advantage of this vegetable. Plant-procured products can provide a cheap, accessible, less pungent alternative to porcine skin and synthetic models and can hugely improve the experience of procedural dermatologists. We suggest those learning new procedures (and their trainers) consider these tools to augment their learning.
