Passenger authentication and payment system using RFID based on-board unit for Surabaya mass rapid transportation

Dedy Wahyu Herdiyanto; Endroyono; Istas Pratomo

This paper proposes a new system for passenger payment and authentication using e-ticket, which is more user-friendly and simple. The designed system consists RFID card as e-ticket, OBU (On-Board Unit), access point at stop location, network, and management revenue server. Passenger will do the payment on OBU that installed in transportation vehicles by tapping the RFID card when they enter and exit the vehicle. OBU will read passenger data in RFID card and send it to server. To access server, OBU will connect to network through access point at bus stop. The server will receive data from OBU twice for each passenger. Each of the data consists passenger ID and stop location. The stop locations indicated passengers current location and used to calculate the fare required for service by comparing start and end location. The optimum range for OBU to connect via Wi-Fi is around 4–6 meters. OBU need at least 1-s interval between each passenger. The overall system already performed quite well, although the system still have some limitation that detected on evaluations, such as distance to read RFID card and connect to access point. This paper also present possible development for the system for future research.

Muh. Ansto Indrajaya; Achmad Affandi; Istas Pratomo

The ability to perform vehicle tracking is very useful in daily life - today, such as security on personal vehicles, public transportation systems, fleet management and other mass transit. In this study, we designed an application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that will be applied to public transport services. This system provides real-time position tracking of each vehicle (taxi) and capable of providing a taxi with the best category for passengers using Dijkstras algorithm. This system can be helpful, especially for passengers who are often too long waiting for a taxi that had been booked and also helps the driver to save fuel consumption because the taxi drivers do not have to drive across town to get the passengers and are just waiting for confirmation sent by this system.

Impact of design parameters on performance of adaptive Network-on-Chips

Istas Pratomo; Sébastien Pillement

In current embedded systems the communications infrastructure requires different Quality-of-Services (QoS) depending on the application domain. An adaptive Network-on-Chip (NoC) can adapt dynamically its characteristics to provide QoS requirements and flexible communication. Designing such a NoC is very time consuming. In this paper we evaluate the impact of NoC design parameters on the performances of an adaptive NoCs. The results on latency and throughput were evaluated using the Noxim simulator.

Erlina Agustina; Istas Pratomo; Adhi Dharma Wibawa; Sri Rahayu

Pests and diseases are one of the main factors that affect the low level of rice plant productivity. The symptoms in the infected rice plant are sometimes difficult to identify because they often shows the similar signs or characteristics so that only the experts who can identity them correctly. The infected rice plant actually can be identified since the beginning stage of planting until harvest time. So by knowing the symptoms in the early stage of the rice plant growth some preventif actions then can be done. Identifying pests and diseases of rice plant needs skills, experiences, and knowledge and should be done fast and accurate because the pests and diseases of rice plant can spread quickly and attack at all area of agriculture land. Since the number of experts in the pests and diseases of rice plant is limited, especially in a remote area, expert system then can be a smart solution for replacing the extensionist to decide what kind of pests or diseases that have attacked the rice plant. This paper presents a design and implementation of an expert system based on web application for diagnozing pests and diseases of the rice plant so that support system then still can be performed to provide the farmers with a correct decision. The knowledge representation model in this study used production rule and forward chaining based on symptoms or characteristics from attacked rice plant. The certainty factors method was used to define the expert confidence level for each symptom. This expert system testing was done by 15 person of non-extensionist of agriculture and 20 person of agriculture extensionist for observing 12 sample of images of the infected rice plant. The testing result showed that the accuracy level of this system is 73,81%. Meaning that this expert system can help farmers determining the pests or diseases of rice plant.

Live migration based on cloud computing to increase load balancing

Jananta Permata Putra; Supeno Mardi Susiki Nugroho; Istas Pratomo

Nowadays, the availability of Internet services is very important. One of these internet services is information system service. When the information system can not be accessed, the user cannot access the information. Therefore, the server used for that application should remain online nonstop. However, in reality the services failure often happens due to server error or repairing process. One of the solution is cloud computing so that the running application can be moved to another server known as migration. Due to regular migration process takes time to move the data, so the services cannot be access. It is necessary to migrate directly to the destination server without moving the data. One way to implement that live migration is replicating the existing data on the origin server to the destination server at any time. Direct migration can be done by replicating data from the origin server to the destination server every time. In this paper we analyze performance of the live migration on cloud computing to improve the availability of information systems. The goal is for users to access information services continuously.

Cooperative communication system with adaptive modulation and energy harvesting

Rini Puji Astutik; Wirawan; Endroyono; Istas Pratomo

Energy Harvesting (EH) is now becoming popular due to promising long lasting life time of communication system. Some of the communication systems use EH device as their energy source. However, EH also has a limitation that is shown in its characteristics as random arrival and scarce of energy. Both of limitation is very influencing the system performance and the number of transmitted data. As we know the more energy is harvested, the longer system can operate. Because of EH limitation, the system with EH device needs to adjust to get the maximal channel capacity. This paper proposes the cooperative communication system with modified decode and forward (DF) method and EH device as a source energy. The modified DF method incorporate adaptive modulation at relay node to transmit data to the destination node. To test the proposed system, in this paper, three different scenarios are simulated, i.e. the non cooperative communication system with EH device as source energy, the cooperative communication system with DF method but fixed modulation level and EH device as a source energy and the proposed system. The simulation result shows the channel capacity of the proposed system is better than two other scenarios.

Edi Prihartono; Achmad Affandi; Istas Pratomo

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the development of information and communication technology nowadays, which provide the ease of communication through Internet Protocol (IP) in real-time. Voice Quality in VoIP is a major constraint in this communication model which is one of the causes is due to the performance of VoIP Server used. The poor performance of the server is strongly affect the quality of the sound and could not even interconnect between clients. In this research, tests and measurements on the performance of VoIP Server which was built using MR3020 Router devices will be carried out directly. The tests and measurements are conducted to find out how many of VoIP calls can be served by the VoIP Server. The result of the tests and measurements in real-time is, VoIP Server able to serve a number of calls with good quality, total of 12 pairs of calls, with a throughput of 0.473 Mbit per second. This means call services has doubled if compared to VoIP from another devices, with the same method of handling the media.

Planning and evaluation of data network performance for telecommunication systems of mass rapid transport (MRT) in Surabaya

Maxima Ari Saktiono; Endroyono; Istas Pratomo

The growth of a major city will always be followed by the number of populations and vehicles every year. Surabaya, as one of the major cities in Indonesia, needs to avoid the congestion problem. One of solution for government is to accelerate the construction of the MRT project. The plan of Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) which will be present in the form of a monorail and tram. The MRT will connect the East and West Corridor of Surabaya by using the monorail. Meanwhile, the North and South Corridor from Joyoboyo to Jembatan Merah will be connected by using tram. This transportation will be integrated with another two modes of transportation, called as feeder and trunk. Based on the MRT development the plan of facilities and infrastructure development that already exists at this time. It still needs a management system planning based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This system requires wireless access and mobile operator to send the data. The evaluations of mobile networks are done on three different operator, which are operators A, B, and C, to find out which one has the best result. From these evaluations, operator B show the best result compared with the other two. For implementation purpose, it is highly recommended that this network system has another alternate network to back up the current network. The alternate network can use such as internet dedicated network to keep the data to reach the server.
