To analyze a didactic and pedagogical proposal for undergraduate group learning in a descriptive, qualitative nursing study in which 54 students participated in 28 operative group sessions. Following a proposal for group learning involving interplay among roles (participant, coordinator and observer), data were collected during group meetings and analyzed for thematic content, following the Pichon-Riviere theoretical framework. From the meetings of the operative groups, three categories emerged: “learning group techniques from group work”, “the group in confrontation, reflection and conflict management”, and “recommendations and weak points”. Learning in groups outperformed the traditional model of teaching, and is an important tool in the management of care and nursing teams.

Non-injecting illicit drug users (NIDU) are a highly vulnerable group for the acquisition of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The majority of these individuals present multiple risk behaviors, such as multiple sexual partners, exchange of sex for money or drugs, and inconsistent use of condoms.1 In addition, this group consists of individuals with low levels of income and education, which enhances the risk of viral acquisition. Studies have shown high rates of inconsistent use of condoms in NIDU, which increases the risk in this population for the acquisition and transmission of HIV.2,3 In this context, the objectives of this study were to estimate the prevalence of inconsistent condom use in NIDU and to identify the factors associated with unprotected sex with casual partners. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 323 NIDU hospitalized in two chemical dependency treatment clinics located in the southwest of Goiás, central west region of Brazil. The study included individuals aged 18 years or over who had used non-injection drugs in the month before the admission date (marijuana, intranasal cocaine, crack, intranasal heroin, inhalants, LSD, and ecstasy). Data collection was carried out between December 2014 and June 2015, through face to face interviews, covering sociodemographic characteristics, drug use pattern, and condom use with casual partners in the previous year. Inconsistent condom use was defined as irregular use (occasionally or never) by type of sexual intercourse (oral, anal, or vaginal).2 Univariate analysis was performed to verify the association between the variables and inconsistent use of condoms by sexual practice, using the STATA, version 12.0 program. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Goiás, authorization No. 926.819/2014. Informed consent was obtained from all participants. The mean age of the participants was 32.4 years (standard deviation: 11.3) and the majority were male (83.0%). Inconsistent use of condoms in oral, vaginal, and anal sex was reported by 72.2% (95% CI: 66.7–76.7%), 83.5% (95% CI: 79.3–87.4%) and 37.5% (95% CI: 32.3–43.1%) of the participants, respectively. A higher prevalence of inconsistent condom use during vaginal and anal sex was verified in females (Prevalence Ratio: 1.40; 95% CI: 1.16–1.69) and in those with a diagnosis of cannabis dependence (Prevalence Ratio: 1.24; 95% CI: 1.01–1.53). A high frequency of inconsistent condom use was observed in this study, confirming the vulnerability of NIDU for the acquisition of HIV. In this context, it is necessary to expand health promotion and prevention of sexually transmitted infections in these individuals, with the availability of condoms, encouraging safe sex practices, and health education of this population.

Objective To systematize the knowledge and the learning of how the instrument Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) has been applied. Method Integrative review, performed from May to July 2014, searching the databases Latin American and Caribbean Health Science Literature (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline), PubMed and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), as well as in the search system of the Portal of Journals of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). We selected 26 articles. Results ASSIST focused on helping the identification and classification of psychoactive substances use, and it has proved to be important in screening the involvement with alcohol and other drugs, and effectiveness in primary health care. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of tobacco smoking, nicotine dependence and associated factors in individuals submitted to bariatric surgery. Methods: A cross-sectional study with 303 bariatric patients, performed between 2015 and 2016, in Catalao, Goias State, Brazil. A questionnaire with sociodemographic variables, health conditions and family history was used. Being currently smoker and having high nicotinic dependence, with agglutination of the high and very high levels of dependence, were taken as predictor variables for the present study, variables collected from the Fargestrom instrument score. The chi-square test was adopted with a significance level of p 0.038). Conclusion: The significant prevalence of tobacco smoking found in this study was associated with factors such as sex, psychic comorbidities (depression/anxiety), family history of suicide, sleeping difficulty, and, negatively, with religious practice.

Objective To calculate the prevalence and analyze factors associated with tobacco use once in a lifetime and check their harmful use among pregnant women. Methods Cross-sectional study conducted with 330 pregnant women assisted in specialized center for women primary health care (Central Brazil). The data of personal/family history and tracing of tobacco use were obtained through a sociodemographic questionnaire (Alcohol, Smoke and Substance Involvement Screening Test) and analyzed using logistic regression. Results The use of tobacco once in a lifetime was associated with income, family history of alcohol and personal mental disorder. The harmful use of tobacco during pregnancy was associated with a family history of smoking and alcohol consumption. Conclusion The prevalence of tobacco use as “once in a lifetime” in the sample was 37.1% (124) and “harmful use” of tobacco during pregnancy was 9.6% (32).
