Gadain, a lignan from jatropha gossypifolia

J. Banerji; B. Das; A. Chatterjee; J. N. Shoolery

Abstract The isolation of a new lignan, gadain, from Jatropha gossypifolia is reported. The structure and stereochemistry of this compound have been determined from spectral analysis, partial synthesis from jatrophan (a lignan of known absolute configuration) and from its transformation reactions.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1984

Three new friedelane lactones from the bark of gynocardia odorata (flacourtiaceae)

B. P. Pradhan; A. Hassan; J. N. Shoolery

Abstract Three new triterpenes - odolactone, acetylodollactone and odollactone from the bark of Gynocardia odorata have been characterised as 3-keto, 3,α-O-acetyl and 3α(-hydroxyl derivatives of friedelan-26→12β-lactone respectively.

5-Methoxy-1-oxo-tetrahydro-β-carboline, an alkaloid from Alstonia venenata

J. Banerji; A. Chatterjee; D.J. Roy; J. N. Shoolery

A new oxo-tetrahydro-β-carboline alkaloid has been isolated from the root bark of Alstonia venenata. It was identified as 5-methoxy-1-oxo-tetrahydro-β-carboline.
