Integrating AR services for the masses: geotagged POI transformation platform

Jakub Trojan

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose the platform for effective transformation of points of interests (POIs) into augmented reality (AR), specifically into the three major software tools – Junaio, Layar and Wikitude. The objective is to facilitate the creation of POIs for common users of these programs and, thus, encourage the general public to participate in the formation of a new concept of applications using AR and location-based services. Design/methodology/approach The subject of this study was analysis of methods used for POI dynamisation under the context of location-based services. This paper suggests methodology based on database format transformation. It is focused on the creation of platform for automated geotagged POI transformation into AR. Findings The research results in prototype of online platform which is capable to automatically transform geotagged POI to three major AR applications. It discusses also the model implementation of this platform in Czech national tourist authority. Research limitations/implications The paper presents a proof-of-concept of dynamisation and transformation of an unspecified number of POIs stored in a simple table database and their transformation into the AR. Practical implications Services of AR are brought for the masses to effectively dynamise tourist information. Social implications Results could make the process of multimedialising data (POIs) more suitable for masses. Originality/value This paper presents a proof-of-concept of dynamisation and transformation of an unspecified number of POIs stored in a simple table database and their transfer into the three major AR applications.

Cilem přispěvku je seznamit ctenaře s možnosti transformace dat o industrialnich objektech do prostředi rozsiřene reality, a to s využitim location-based services.

IMPLEMENTATION OF AUGMENTED REALITY AND LOCATION-BASED SERVICES TO REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Michal Gregor; Jakub Trojan

This article discusses an innovative concept of augmented reality and location-based services in regional development. The aim of this article is to present the approaches that led to the creation of dynamic data of the strategic parts of community development strategy in the local action groups of the Zlin Region in the Czech Republic. In total, data from 18 local action groups, which are located in the territory of the Zlin Region, were collected. These data were transformed into a tabulated form, and a web platform (developed by the Institute of Geonics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic) was used to dynamically transform static data into dynamic ones. The output from this web platform is data that are ready for implementation into augmented reality applications (such as Layar or Wikitude) and can serve not only local action groups. Other potential subscribers are regions, micro-regions, as well as developers or citizens themselves.

Development of the knowledge system based on formation of holistic competence of project managers in the Czech Republic

Pavel Taraba; Jakub Trojan; Veronika Kavkova

Based on research from Czech and international sources in the field of project management, the main goal of this paper is to compile a set of relevant data, skills and experiences in order to increase the level of the holistic competence of project managers in the Czech Republic. The primary goal will be a compilation of suggestions regarding knowledge systems development based on the elements of holistic competence, e.g. in areas such as the acquisition of information and practical skills as well as familiarization with relevant social maturity skills in the conditions of the Czech Republic. A summarizing analysis will be undertaken of individual levels of knowledge in project management centered on skills in holistic management, general management and strategic management. A comparison of the differences between Czech and international information sources should prove to be another important theoretical contribution. Acquainting International Project Management Association members with information regarding the holistic competence of project managers should be considered not only as a contribution to stakeholders and investors in the private sector, but also to universities and public

Augmented Reality As A New Way Of Exploring The City: Unified Platform For Data Providers

Jakub Trojan; Stanislav Chudáček; Peter Chrastina

The purpose of the paper is to present the ways of using augmented reality as part of location based services. These tools have become very popular after the mass using of smart phones and navigation technologies. The objective of the paper is to introduce a unified web-based platform invented for data providers for smarter transformation of the static data. We used developer’s interfaces of the most popular augmented reality mobile apps (Layar and Wikitude) to utilize them in to the user-friendly web platform which provides comfort for content creators. Thus we have simple and very effective tool for dynamization of static data (points of interests in the cities) to the dynamize form suitable for augmented reality apps. The implementation of the web-based platform is being realized among Czech destination management organizations and will be released under the open source license. This approach comes with the unique benefits for data providers / content creators and could bring new point of view for big data presentation to the public.
