The SPARC accident-avoiding vehicle concept and the new VeHiL vehicle test stand

In Germany, approximately 60,000 people are injured, disabled or killed every year due to road accidents. 97 % of all accidents are caused by human error. Due to efforts by the EU Commission in Brussels to reduce the number of people killed in accidents by 50 % by the year 2010, the development of accident-avoiding technologies will be promoted through the financing of such projects. The task of the car manufacturers in this regard should be to focus on the avoidance of driving errors by the implementation of optimum driver support systems using intelligent assistance and display systems. In Deutschland gibt es jahrlich etwa 60.000 Verletzte, Schwerverletzte und Getotete im Strasenverkehr. 97 % aller Unfalle werden durch menschliches Fehlverhalten verursacht. Mit dem Bestreben der EU-Kommission in Brussel, die Zahl der Unfalltoten bis 2010 um 50 % zu reduzieren, wird die Entwicklung unfallvermeidender Technologien durch entsprechend finanzierte Projekte forciert. Die Aufgabe der Automobilhersteller soll in diesem Zusammenhang in der Vermeidung der Fahrfehler durch optimale Fahrerunterstutzung uber intelligente Assistenz- und Anzeigesysteme bestehen.
