Avaliação de dialetos brasileiros: o sotaque

This paper presents scores of attitude tests applied in five Brazilian cities: Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Florianopolis, Joao Pessoa and Porto Alegre. The results made possible the identification of a narrow relationship between self-confidence and cultural identity: the more people in a city are aware of the difference between their dialect and the dialect used by the media the proudes they are of their accent. It is exactly this accent which received the highest scores of acceptability by the speakers of other accents.

Trinta anos de sintaxe gerativa no Brasil

This paper reports the generativist research developed in Brazil, from the standard theory to the Minimalist approach (Chomsky 1995), leaving out works in language aquisition, which are reported in Kato (1999). It contains three sections: I. The Standard Theory and the Extended Standard Theory; II. The Principles and Parameters Theory; III. The years 1998-1999.

De nome a pronome: um estudo sobre o item «senhor»

Resumo: Adotando a concepcao formalista de gramaticalizacao, as diferentes realizacoes do item senhor foram descritas neste artigo como um processo resultante da recategorizacao de um nome. No eixo diacronico, foi identificado o seguinte percurso no que diz respeito a posicao estrutural de senhor : adjunto > especificador > nucleo. E na posicao de vocativo que senhor ocorre como nome nu. Este teria sido o gatilho da reanalise nome > pronome ou, mais exatamente, N > D. Abstract: The formalist concept of grammaticalization was adopted in this article in order to describe the different realizations of the item senhor (“sir”) from Brazilian Portuguese as the resulting process of a recategorization of a noun. It was identified the following diachronic path of this item as far as its structural position is concerned: adjunct > specifier > head. It is in the vocative position that the item senhor occurs as a bare noun. This would be the trigger for a reanalysis of the noun > pronoun or, more exactly, N > D. O principal objetivo deste artigo e responder aos comentarios e criticas feitos por Petersen, no artigo A triparticao pronominal e o estatuto das proformas Ce, Oce e Voce, publicado nesta Revista, as nossas analises apresentadas em Vitral (1996) e Ramos (1997) que tomam a forma ce como um clitico e como uma das etapas de um processo de gramaticalizacao que teve como fonte a expressao Vossa Merce.
