Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to attempt to build a conceptual model of Open Access Institutional Repositories (OAIR) in Indonesia academic libraries, viewed from knowledge management (KM) perspective. Design/methodology/approach – Literature-based conceptual analysis of previous studies related to open access, institutional repositories viewed from KM perpective. Findings – The conceptual model of OAIR emphasizes three variables – people collaboration, process, and technology functions. These variables, with their many elements, are integrated together in order to help the university or Higher Education (HE) institution in capturing its own scholarship produced as a whole. Besides, that integration aims at facilitating knowledge sharing so as to enrich knowledge content and to enhance global access. A process chart of OAIR based on the conceptual model is built to illustrate knowledge content recruitment in Indonesia academic libraries. Research limitations/implications – The conceptual model pr...

This paper presents proposals for improving and accelerating research and development processes through open innovation based on contractual project-based alliances between energy companies in developed and developing countries. The present study adopted an inductive approach, employing archival studies and a literature review to develop a model for research and development (R%D) contractual project-based alliances to be investigated in future research. This model was an attempt to collaborate between the phases of alliance strategy activities and the phases of R%D activities applied in contractual project-based activities. The present study distinguished three phases of open innovation: the pre-project phase of partner selection, the project phase of innovation, and the post-project phase of commercialisation. This model incorporated a knowledge management perspective focusing on intangible factors and a resource-based view focusing on tangible factors.

This study developed a model for alliance strategy activities that will be implemented in research and development contractual projects between developed and developing country energy companies. This paper used quantitative research that included a survey of PERTAMINA, an Indonesian energy company. This alliance process model divided its activities into three phases: 1) the pre-project phase: the partner is selected based on knowledge factors, including their competences, capabilities, experience and expertise, in addition to resource factors, including their complementary assets, specific objectives, risk sharing and cost sharing; 2) the project phase: the innovation activities are performed, which involves a knowledge management system as a moderating component with factors, including a technology transfer process, technology support for knowledge management, knowledge sharing and absorptive capacity, and organisation structure factors, including team-building processes, partner roles, open communication, and decision-making processes; 3) the post-project phase: commercialised innovation, which is based on factors including knowledge, intellectual property rights (IPR), and innovativeness as a source of competitive advantage. The theoretical contributions of this study, due to the innovation process has a high uncertainty aspect, alliance in innovation activities are better conducted in contractual project form without entail the share of ownership.
