Further Studies of the I Antigen and Antibody

Patricia Tippett; Jean Noades; Ruth Sanger; R. R. Race; Laima Sausais; C.A. Holman; R.J. Buttimer

The blood of a Puerto Rican, of a West Indian Negress and of several members of a Baltimore Negro family is described. The red cells of these people are apparently of the phenotype i and their serum contains anti‐I. The samples differ somewhat from that of the English i donor of Jenkins et al. (1960): their red cells are not quite so weak in I antigen and the anti‐I in their serum is more restricted in range.

The I Antigen and Antibody

W.J. Jenkins; W. L. Marsh; Jean Noades; Patricia Tippett; Ruth Sanger; R. R. Race

The red cells of an English blood donor, Mr. M., are of the phenotype i: the anti‐I which is present in his serum is presumably a “naturally occurring” antibody for he has never been a recipient. The red cells of Mr. M. are extraordinarily weak in their reaction with anti‐H and anti‐O sera but not unusual in any other respect.

The Phenotype Jk(a‐b‐) in the Kidd Blood Group System

F. J. Pinkerton; L. E. Mermod; Bobbie Liles; J. A. Jack; Jean Noades

The red cells of a patient who had suffered from a hemolytic reaction following transfusion were found to be of the phenotype Jk(a‐b‐) which has not hitherto been reported. The serum of the patient contains antibody which reacted with all cells tested save her own; anti‐Jkb was proved to be a component, but most of the antibody appeared to be cross‐reacting, inseparable, anti‐Jka Jkb.

The red cell antigen Pk and its relationship to the P system: the evidence of three more Pk families.

A. E. Kortekangas; E. Kaarsalo; Liisa Melartin; Patricia Tippett; June Gavin; Jean Noades; Ruth Sanger; R. R. Race

The results of testing the families of the third, fourth and fifth Pk propositi have advanced the understanding of this antigen and its relationship to the P system.

A second family with the red cell antigen Pk.

A. E. Kortekangas; Jean Noades; Patricia Tippett; Ruth Sanger; R. R. Race

Two sisters in a Finnish family have been found to have the red cell antigen PK. This antigen, which belongs to the P system, had previously been found only in two sisters of a Finnish family living in Minneapolis. No relationship could be traced between the two families nor, in either family, were the parents cousins.

The linkage relation of Xg to g‐6‐pd in Israelis: the evidence of a second series of families

Avinoam Adam; Patricia Tippett; June Gavin; Jean Noades; Ruth Sanger; R. R. Race

The loci for Xg and for glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase are not within direct measurable distance of each other. Analysis of two‐generation data for a previous series of Israeli families strongly suggested that linkage was measurable, but massive three‐generation data from Sardinia contradicted this and stimulated the collection of a second series in Israel, this time confined mostly to three‐generation families. The two Israeli series combined now agree with the Sardinian series in showing no evidence of direct measurable linkage.
