PI Controlled Three-phase Shunt Active Power Filter for Power Quality Improvement

Abdelmadjid Chaoui; Jean Paul Gaubert; Fateh Krim; Gérard Champenois

Abstract The simulation and experimental study of proportional integrator (PI) controlled DC bus voltage of three phase shunt active power filter (APF) to improve power quality by compensating harmonics and reactive power required by nonlinear load is proposed. The compensation process is based on sensing mains currents only, an approach different from conventional methods, which usually require harmonics or reactive volt-ampere values of the load. The non-sinusoidal mains voltage problem is resolved by using phase locked loop (PLL) system. Pulse width modulation (PWM) signal generation is based on hysteresis control comparators to obtain the switching signals.ű Various simulation and experimental results are presented under steady state and transient conditions.

Estimation of wind turbine and solar photovoltaic energy using variant sampling intervals

Dhaker Abbes; André Martinez; Gérard Champenois; Jean Paul Gaubert; Riad Kadri

In this paper, we estimate renewable energy from wind and solar for different sites. Two methods are applied in case of wind energy: Weibull distribution and direct integration methodology. In additional, influence of the data sampling interval is studied. Results show that the computational method based on the integration of the power is more accurate. Also, it is shown that the hourly time resolution provides satisfactory accuracy in wind and solar resource estimation, in comparison with one minutes resolution. Results allow better design for hybrid systems (wind and photovoltaic energy). Moreover, Data acquisitions are minimized. A shorter time of treatment and less expensive measurement equipments are required.

The new FLC-variable incremental conductance MPPT with direct control method using Cuk converter

Tawfik Radjai; Jean Paul Gaubert; Lazhar Rahmani

Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is a necessary function for all photovoltaic (PV) systems. The classical incremental conductance (IncCond) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) with direct control is widely applied in many papers. The IncCond algorithm is prone to failure during high changes in the irradiance. This paper deals with a new algorithm based on variable step size to eliminate all drawbacks of the classical IncCond algorithm with direct control. We use fuzzy logic controller to adjust the duty cycle change, therefore, the reach of MPP is quick and accurate simultaneously during the dynamic and steady state conditions compared to conventional IncCond MPPT with direct control method, a controlled Cuk dc-dc converter was used and connected to a SunTech STP085B in order to verify the results. We used Matlab Simulink for simulation, the results clearly indicate the improvement of the proposed method.

Fuzzy-Direct Power Control of a Grid Connected Photovoltaic System Associate with Shunt Active Power Filter

Sabir Ouchen; Achour Betka; Jean Paul Gaubert; Sabrina Abdeddaim; Farida Mazouz

The present paper suggests a simulation study for a grid connected photovoltaic system, associated to a shunt active power filter (SAPF). On the one hand, to extract the maximum power from the PV generator a fuzzy logic Maximum power taking point (MPPT) is proposed in order to track permanently the optimum point. On the other hand, direct power control (DPC) is used to control the shunt active power filter in order to compensate the undesirable harmonic. The simulation of the system under the Matlab/SimulinkTM environment demonstrates the robustness of the proposed controls that simultaneously guarantee harmonic current compensation, unit power factor operation and injection of solar power to the power grid.
