Pair distribution function analysis of pressure treated zeolite Na-A

Jennifer E. Readman; Paul M. Forster; Karena W. Chapman; Peter J. Chupas; John B. Parise; Joseph A. Hriljac

Pair distribution function studies using X-ray scattering data from zeolite Na-A samples treated at pressure up to 8 GPa indicate a pressure-induced amorphisation mechanism involving loss of crystallographic order of the aluminosilicate framework but retention of the local sodium to oxygen bonding.

Biorecovery of Uranium from Minewaters into Pure Mineral Product at the Expense of Plant Wastes

Marion Paterson-Beedle; Lynne E. Macaskie; Jennifer E. Readman; Joseph A. Hriljac

Perceived environmental problems of nuclear fuel fabrication, use and treatment limit the acceptability of nuclear power as an alternative to fossil fuels. This applies to nuclear fuel processing and reprocessing but contamination also occurs at source via run-offs from current and historic mining activities. The price of uranium (U3O8) in the1990s was US

Synthesis and structure of zinc oxide clusters encapsulated in zeolite LTA

Jennifer E. Readman; I. Gameson; Joseph A. Hriljac; P.P. Edwards; Paul A. Anderson

10/lb but is currently US

29 Si and 27Al MAS NMR spectra are affected by alkali metal cluster formation in zeolite LTA

Kelly L. Moran; Peter D. Barker; Jennifer E. Readman; P.P. Edwards; Ray Dupree; Paul A. Anderson

58/lb, peaking in 2007 at US

Biorecovery of uranium from aqueous solutions at the expense of phytic acid

Marion Paterson-Beedle; Jennifer E. Readman; Joseph A. Hriljac; Lynne E. Macaskie

135/lb. With the potential global expansion of nuclear power as an alternative to fossil fuels the market and strategic values of U will rise. A new biotechnology was demonstrated for efficient recovery of U from minewaters as pure hydrogen uranyl phosphate (HUP) but an economic assessment (discounting the value of U) showed that the limitation as a waste treatment process was the cost of the phosphate feed supplement which contained 1 mol/mol phosphate. We describe the use of phytic acid (inositol phosphate; 6 mol phosphate/mol), a ubiquitous plant waste, to support the removal of uranium as HUP by an immobilised cell reactor and shift the focus from away bioremediation to value product manufacturing from wastes, and resource efficiency.

AN ORDERED ARRAY OF CADMIUM CLUSTERS ASSEMBLED IN ZEOLITE A

Jennifer E. Readman; Peter D. Barker; I. Gameson; Joseph A. Hriljac; Wuzong Zhou; P.P. Edwards; Paul A. Anderson

We report the synthesis and structure, obtained through Rietveld analysis of powder synchrotron X-ray diffraction data, of zinc oxide clusters encapsulated in zeolite LTA.

Journal of Physical Chemistry C | 2013

Aberration-Corrected STEM Analysis of a Cubic Cd Array Encapsulated in Zeolite A

Alvaro Mayoral; Jennifer E. Readman; Paul A. Anderson

We report the application of 27Al and 29Si MAS NMR to provide a direct probe of alkali metal cluster formation and distribution in the α-cages of zeolite A (LTA).

Microporous and Mesoporous Materials | 2005

Observation of a rhombohedral phase change during the dehydration of zinc-exchanged zeolite A

Jennifer E. Readman; I. Gameson; Joseph A. Hriljac; Paul A. Anderson
