Jeong-Won Han; Hanna Lee; Hee-Yeong Woo

This study is a cross sectional, descriptive research that utilized the Korean version of the BHCC (Behavior Health Care Competency) measurement tools to compare and contrast the BHCC level between nurses stationed in psychiatric and general ward departments. The research subjects were selected from 6 hospitals that have at least 300 beds located in Seoul city and Gyeonggi Province. There were a total of 190 nurses, consisting of 90 nurses from the psychiatric ward department and 100 nurses from the general ward department. The comparison demonstrated that nurses from psychiatric ward department showed a higher BHCC compared to general department nurses in most items. In the case of psychiatric ward nurses, compared to general ward nurses, the assessment was 5.29 times higher, the intervention was 6.06 times higher and the proper use of resources was 2.63 times higher. On the other hand, the treatment recommendation had no influence. Accordingly, education and training for general ward nurses should be improved and hospital administrators should pay more attention in conducting the BHCC education for the general ward nurses and on fostering education experts to develop related programs.

Effect of Nurses' Emotional Labor on Customer Orientation and Service Delivery: The Mediating Effects of Work Engagement and Burnout

Sang-Sook Han; Jeong-Won Han; Yun-Hyung Kim

Background The emotional labor performed by organization members affects psychological well-being at the individual level, which consequently affects results at the organizational level. Moreover, despite evidence that the customer orientation and service level of nurses greatly affect hospital management, studies that comprehensively analyze emotional labor, work burnout, and work engagement related to customer orientation and service level are lacking. This study investigated relationships and paths by designing a model of the effect of emotional labor performed by nurses on the level of service delivery and customer orientation. Methods This survey-based study was based on a path analysis designed to verify a hypothesized model involving emotional labor performed by nurses, level of service delivery, customer orientation, work engagement, and burnout. Questionnaires were distributed to 378 nurses in general hospitals with more than 500 beds located in Seoul, Republic of Korea, between March 25 and April 8, 2013. Results The results showed that deep acting and work engagement had direct and indirect effects on increasing the level of service delivery and customer orientation of nurses. However, surface acting had an indirect effect on reducing the level of service delivery and customer orientation. Conclusion It would be more effective to develop interventions to enhance deep acting and work engagement than to attempt to reduce surface acting and work burnout in clinical nursing settings.

Jeong-Won Han

This study used a job demand-resources model as the basis to examine the effects of job demand and job resources on health problems and turnover intention. A total of 320 nurses who were employed at university hospitals in Seoul participated in the study. The results showed that job demand and job resources had a direct effect on the levels of work burnout and work engagement. Work burnout had a direct effect by increasing the levels of health problems and turnover intentions of nurses; conversely, work engagement had no direct impact on either of the two levels. Job demand and job resources had an indirect effect on increased levels of health problems and turnover intention. The results can be used by hospital administrations to confirm the organizational significance of job resources in increasing job performance and work involvement, as well as to understand the consequences of perceived job demand by nurses.

Validity and Reliability of a Korean version of Leader Rapport Management

Jeong-Won Han; Nam-Eun Kim

Abstract This was a methodological study that verified the validity and reliability by translating and modifying theKorean Version of LRM (leader rapport management) tool. This study verified the content validity, construct validity, concurrent validity and convergent validity on 200 nurses working in general hospitals. The LRM tool was analyzedusing a total of 3 factors (ego, autonomy, association) and 12 items. The reliability of this tool (Cronbachs α) was 0.83 to 0.86. The tool showed a high level of reliability and validity. The difference from preceding studies showedthat the LRM is a measurement tool that considers multi-dimensional aspects, and it can provide the basic material of report management methods in diverse aspects for clinical nurse managers. Jeong-Won Han

불건강한 비만인에 비해 1주일 동안의 유연성 운동일수(Odds ratio (OR)=1.18, 95% confidence interval (95% CI)=1.01-1.38), 수분 섭취(OR=1.04, 95% CI=1.01-1.06)및 단백질 섭취량(OR=1.07, 95% CI=1.02-1.13)이 높고, 지방(OR=0.99, 95% CI=0.98-1.00)과 탄수화물(OR=0.98, 95% CI=0.97-0.99)의 섭취량이 낮은 것으로 확인되었다. 이를 근거로 하여 비만 성인에 대한 간호중재는 대사적 상태에 따른 접근이 필요하다고 사료된다. Abstract This study divides subjects into people with metabolically healthy obesity and those with metabolically unhealthy obesity to identify the physical activities and nutrients influencing adults with obesity. Participants in the sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted from January through December 2013 were selected as the subjects, and an analysis of complex survey samples was conducted with them. It was found that the number of days of a flexibility exercise (Odds ratio (OR)=1.18, 95% confidence interval (95% CI)=1.01-1.38), water intake (OR=1.04, 95% CI=1.01-1.06) and protein intake (OR=1.07, 95% CI=1.02-1.13) for one week were higher in people with metabolically healthy obesity than in those with metabolically unhealthy obesity, while their fat intake (OR=0.99, 95% CI=0.98-1.00)and carbohydrate intake (OR=0.98, 95% CI=0.97-0.99) were lower. Based on the results of this study, it was found that nursing intervention for obesity would need an approach according to the metabolic condition of obesity.
