PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and serious adverse events associated with capecitabine use in Korean patients by analyzing data from a comprehensive national database of adverse events. METHOD Data from all reports concerning capecitabine (Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical code: L01BC06) generated between January 2011 and December 2014 were collected from the Korean Adverse Event Reporting System database (KAERS). RESULTS A total of 676 reports and 1069 capecitabine-related ADRs were identified. Ninety-nine cases (14.6%) were classified as serious adverse events. The most commonly reported capecitabine-related ADRs involved gastrointestinal system disorders (324, 30.3%), including diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomatitis, followed by skin and appendage reactions (220, 20.6%), which included symptoms such as skin discoloration/disorder/dryness, itching, and rash. CONCLUSIONS Patients need to be educated about the common ADRs associated with capecitabine intake in a clinical setting. Patient characteristics must be considered when determining the capecitabine dosage and risk of ADRs, and nursing intervention is critical for preventing exacerbation of these ADRs.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship among subjective health status, mental health, and cancer stigma of long-term cancer survivors after gastric surgery. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 135 cancer survivors visiting the family medicine clinic of a tertiary hospital were surveyed. Data were collected from March 1 to May 31, 2017. Using the questionnaire, subjective health status, mental health, and cancer stigma were measured and analyzed. Results: The mean scores for subjective health status, stress, and cancer stigma were 80.16, 2.97 and 1.59 respectively. Anxiety and depression rates were 37.1% and 28.9% respectively. Cancer stigma was negatively correlated with subjective health status (r=-.18, p=.036) and positive association with anxiety (r=.23, p=.009), depression (r=.20, p=.023), and stress (r=.21, p=.017). Conclusion: In this study, long-term cancer survivors’ subjective health status, mental health, and cancer stigma were low and these variables were significantly associated. In order to improve the quality of life of long-term gastric cancer survivors, it is necessary to actively evaluate anxiety, depression, stress, and cancer stigma. The appropriate psychosocial care interventions developed through repeated research of survivors of long-term cancer should be continued.

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the present conditions of clinical practicum through analyzing guidebooks used in education institutions for oncology advanced practice nursing programs and to discuss future directions. Methods: Ten of a total of 13 education institutions participated in this study and ten guidebooks were reviewed from June 1 to October 31, 2014. The standard curriculum developed by the Korean accreditation board of nursing education was used to analyze the present conditions and an analyzing frame was developed by a research team. Two coders independently recorded the data, agreement was 92% and all disagreements was concurrent after discussion. Results: Courses in the area of ‘advanced oncology nursing’ were most highly established and, courses in the area of ‘introduction of oncology nursing’ were least established. Some learning objectives were never dealt with and some learning objectives were over dealt with. The national cancer center was most used for practicum. Diverse homework and evaluation methods were used. Conclusion: Through analyzing clinical practicum guidebooks for oncology advanced practice nursing students, we found that balanced practicum courses are needed to improve the quality of oncology advanced practice nurse programs.
