In the paper we carried out the analysis of the properties of the Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA) on a well known one-dimensional binary knapsack problem. Binary knapsack problems are among the most widely studied problems in discrete optimization. Since the optimization versions of these problems are nP-hard, practical solution techniques do not ask for optimality, but are heuristics that generate feasible, suboptimal solutions. In this paper we describe the 0-1 knapsack problem itself, the backgrounds of the HSA, Baldwin and Lamarck Effects and the numerical tests. The result of the tests performed is surprised a bit.

This paper discusses a multilevel algorithm for finding optimal control in a static distribution system based on the idea of aggregation technique. We present mathematical model of this system with its elements as well as two basic algorithms. The first is a simulation algorithm of the pipeline network and the other is an algorithm for finding an optimal control at the pumping station. This paper discusses the static problem (Kotowski and Olesiak, 1980) of energy wastes minimization in the water network and also describes an algorithm for solving it. Finally, an algorithm of operative control of the water distribution systems is presented.

Task scheduling is one of the main parts of Cloud Computing (CC). We understand this process as mapping users tasks to appropriate resources to execute. Since we use virtual machines (VM) to hide physical resources form user the critical problem is how to schedule this machines (sub tasks) in given resources (ie. host machines). Tasks scheduling algorithms for CC systems are discussed in literature [2][4][5]. The most authors use mathematical model without consideration of many problems with desktop virtualization. In this paper we consider a new model for tasks scheduling of VM deployment for business and educational purposes. We also introduce genetic algorithm [1] for task scheduling in CC.

Abstract This paper discusses basic problem formulation, and solution procedures for solving a particular large-scale two-dimensional cutting stock problem at a furniture factory. In recent years there has been an explosion of interests in this application area. The cutting stock problems are met in many branches of industry. There is a large economical incentive to find more effective solution procedures, and it is easy to compare alternative solution procedures and to identify potential benefits of using a proposed procedure. The paper concentrates on the case in which both stock and ordered sizes are rectangular. We present a mathematical model of the problem, propose an optimization algorithm and describe its basic properties. The mathematical model of the optimization problem relies on the Gilmore and Gomory approach. To decrease the total computing time we propose an interactive procedure based on the forecasting of the criterion functions values.

Abstract In this paper the results of our investigation of methods and algorithms for operative and dynamical control of water distribution systems are presented. Our investigation was directed to the distribution system equipped with a variety of components—pipes, consumers, valves and the inner water store (a reservoir) as the most important one. The final model of the optimization problem containing all necessary restrictions is so complex that it is impossible to solve it without some special techniques. In the presented study we propose a multilevel approach based on the idea of aggregation of the pipelines network. In the paper the method of determination of aggregated model of the network is presented. The usefulness of this method in the optimization of water supply systems is examined. Based on an aggregated network model one determines optimal strategies for control of pumping stations. The optimization model consists of a linear objective function and quadratic constraints. A nonlinear mixed integer programming problem which is solved by modified branch and bound method is obtained.

In this paper methods of designing of a class of highly reliable digital circuit - Totally Self Checking Sequential Machines are presented. The main problem in TSC sequential machines (TSC SM) designing is synthesis TSC functional excitation circuit. Formal condition of ST property for both AND-OR and AND-AND-OR structures are presented. The description of design methodology of TSC SM is presented. Owing to our methods we can design TSC circuits in a fully automatic way.

Cloud computing is a Web-based processing, that allow to share resources, software, and information over the Internet. Cloud computing helps enterprises and other institutions like schools, universities, etc. transform business and technology. Most cloud computing infrastructures consist of services delivered through common centers and built on servers.
