A series of novel arylantimony(V) triphenylgermanylpropionates with the formula (Ph 3 GeCHR 1 CHR 2 CO 2 ) n SbAr (5− n ) (R 1 =H, Ph; R 2 =H, CH 3 ; n =1, 2) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR and mass spectroscopy. The crystal structures of Ph 3 GeCH(Ph)CH 2 CO 2 SbPh 4 and [Ph 3 GeCH 2 CH(CH 3 )CO 2 ] 2 Sb(4-ClC 6 H 4 ) 3 were determined by X-ray diffraction. The in vitro antitumor activities of some selected compounds against five cancer cells are reported.

Abstract A series of novel arylbismuth(V) triphenylgermylpropionates with the formula Ar 3 Bi(O 2 CCHR 1 CHR 2 GePh 3 ) 2 (R 1 =H, CH 3 ; R 2 =H, Ph; Ar=Ph, 4-CH 3 C 6 H 4 , 4-FC 6 H 4 , 4-ClC 6 H 4 , 4-BrC 6 H 4 ) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H-NMR and mass spectroscopy. The crystal structures of (4-BrC 6 H 4 ) 3 Bi(O 2 CCH 2 CH 2 GePh 3 ) 2 and (4-BrC 6 H 4 ) 3 Bi[O 2 CCH(CH 3 )CH 2 GePh 3 ] 2 were determined by X-ray diffraction. Three human neoplastic cell lines (HCT-8, Bel-7402 and KB) were used to screen these compounds. The results indicate that some compounds at 5 μM show good in vitro antitumor activities.

ABSTRACT A series of novel tetraphenylantimony(V) derivatives of the analogues of demethylcantharidin and demethyldehydrogencantharidin, exo-7-oxa-bicyclo[2,2,1]-heptane-3-arylamide-2-carboxylic acid and exo-7-oxa-bicyclo[2,2,1]-heptene-3-arylamide-2-carboxylic acid, of the general formulas , , , and have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR and mass spectroscopy. Preliminary antitumor activity tests show that these compounds have significant antitumor activity in vitro against five human neoplastic cell lines.

Three new chiral 3-substituted BINOL Schiff bases and their reductive 3-arylaminomethyl BINOL products have been synthesized and used for the asymmetric addition reaction of diethylzinc to aldehydes in the presence of titanium tetraisopropoxide. The reaction provided optically active secondary alcohols in high yield (86-100%) and good enantioselectivity (up to 92% ee).
