A New Manner for Energy Reintroduction in AJAX

Much attention has been focused on a revolutionary hypersonic propulsion system named AJAX, and the poor performance of MHD accelerator has been demonstrated by computational and experimental efforts, which is the key component for energy reintroduction in AJAX. The reason for the poor performance of MHD accelerator is investigated in this paper, and the explorative work about a new manner for energy reintroduction is carried out, in which arc technology is supposed to displace MHD accelerator. Some discussions for the above two cases are investigated qualitatively and quantitatively based on thermodynamic principal, and the comparative analysis results show that the engine specific thrust for the case of arc technology is equivalent to that for the case of MHD accelerator under ideal and undeal computational condition respectively

The Influence of Energy-bypass on the Performance of AJAX

With the review of published paper about AJAX, a special and interesting phenomena emerges that the performance of AJAX decreases with the energy bypass ratio. The thermodynamic analysis of AJAX has been examined to define the effect of energy bypass on the performance of engine, which results show that the energy bypass will impose negative effect on the performance of AJAX without consideration of other factors, while impose positive effect on inlet compression and combustor heat addition. With all the contributions of inlet, MHD devices and other components, AJAX can gain better performance than conventional scramjet.
