Enhanced Sunlight Photocatalytic Performance of N,S-Codoped TiO2 Prepared by Sol-Gel Method Using Ammonium Thiocyanate

N,S-codoped anatase TiO2 photocatalysts were successfully prepared by a sol-gel method using ammonium thiocyanate as dopant. The physicochemical properties and structure of the photocatalysts were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method, X-ray diffraction, UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and surface photovoltage spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities were evaluated by decolorization of methyl orange aqueous solution under simulated solar irradiation. The results show that photocatalytic activities of the prepared TiO2 are improved by N and S codoping. The mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic performance was also discussed.
