Battery Monitoring with the Intelligent Battery Sensor During Service, Standby and Production

Matthias Schöllmann; Marc Rosenmayr; Joachim Olk

The ever greater number of electrical functions requires new strategies to satisfy the increasing demand for electrical power. Therefore energy and battery management is becoming more and more important all the time. Accurate knowledge of the battery state is required since this information forms the fundamental basis of every energy management functionality. The Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), jointly developed by Hella, Autokabel and BMW, is a mechatronic device integrated into the standard battery terminal. The IBS is able to record battery voltage, current and temperature very precisely over wide operating ranges. Since the Intelligent Battery Sensor comprises all of the necessary electronics and mechanical parts for integration in the battery clip, this design concept incorporates several additional advantages for vehicle operation, production and service.

Modulare Bordnetzarchitektur für Hybridfahrzeuge

Nikolaus Decius; Hans Klein; Karl-Heinz Fortkort; Joachim Olk; Wolfgang Ruttor; Matthias Schöllmann

Modular vehicle electric system architecture for hybrid vehicles

Nikolaus Decius; Hans Klein; Karl-Heinz Fortkort; Joachim Olk; Wolfgang Ruttor; Matthias Schöllmann

High growth rates are being forecast for hybrid electric vehicles. Since figures will still remain low in comparison with vehicles with conventional engines in the years to come, however, vehicles with hybrid drive trains will remain a niche market for the time being. In order to reduce costs, which are still too high, a modular structured vehicle architecture using vehicle electric system components from conventional series-produced vehicles is an advantage. This paper presents one possible solution being pursued by Hella together with its partner Intedis in the structuring and model-aided design of vehicle electric systems in hybrid vehicles, and explains this approach in more detail.
