international symposium on microarchitecture | 2008
Jonathan M. Owen; Maurice B. Steinman
Demands for mobility and portability have driven microprocessor and system manufacturers to innovate in the areas of power and thermal management and efficiency. Cost and space, meanwhile, have driven manufacturers toward unified memory architectures for CPU and graphics, further complicating power management. AMDs Griffin microprocessor, optimized for mobile computing platforms, introduces several northbridge innovations to manage power without diminishing performance.
