Seen and heard : duality at the access points to television databases

Purpose – To show how the double nature of audiovisual material, that it is viewed and referenced, is reflected at the access points of a documentary database.Design/methodology/approach – To achieve this aim a journey through the indexation elements – supported by explanatory examples – is undertaken, so as to identify and analyze onomastic, thematic, geographical and chronological aspects.Findings – The findings reveal the need to identify in indexation the elements viewed in the image track and referenced in the sound track; such a need is supported by user/journalist requests, so that the documentation service is adapted to such information needs.Research limitations – The management method displayed is only valid for medium and large television companies. Thematic description of audio‐visual information on television

Purpose – This paper endeavours to show the possibilities for thematic description of audio‐visual documents for television with the aim of promoting and facilitating information retrieval.Design/methodology/approach – To achieve these goals different database fields are shown, as well as the way in which they are organised for indexing and thematic element description, analysed and used as an example. Some of the database fields are extracted from an analytical study of the documentary system of television in Spain. Others are being tested in university television on which indexing experiments are carried out.Findings – Not all thematic descriptions are used on television information systems; nevertheless, some television channels do use thematic descriptions of both image and sound, applying thesauri. Externalización de la gestión documental audiovisual en las televisiones por medio de productoras audiovisuales y agencias de noticias

Simplification is analyzed in regards to content analysis methods of television archives, derived from various factors such as the restructuring of the documentary-making organization changes to human and economic resources and the acquisition of content analysis description from creative companies such as producers, audiovisual and news agencies. Both factors, symbiotically, have changed documentary description by removing the thematic description, geographic and onomastic content as well as terminology and documentary control by means of the tools of documentary language. These changes result in serious problems for standardization and recovery, which do not seem to be solved by automatic identification techniques for audiovisual content (biometric tools).Se analiza la simplificacion en el metodo de analisis de contenido en los archivos televisivos derivados de factores diversos tales como la reestructuracion de la organizacion documental, los ajustes de los recursos humanos y economicos asi como la adquisicion de la descripcion de analisis del contenido a empresas creadoras de contenidos tales como las productoras y las agencias de noticias audiovisuales. Ambos factores, de forma simbiotica, han modificado la descripcion documental eliminando la descripcion de contenido tematico, geografico y onomastico asi como el control terminologico y documental por medio de herramientas propias del lenguaje documental. Estos cambios se traducen en graves problemas de normalizacion y recuperacion que no parecen solventados por medio de tecnicas para la identificacion automatica de contenido audiovisual (herramientas biometricas).Palabras clave: Analisis de imagen. Citing informative television documents in scientific works

– The purpose of this paper is propose a citation method for referring to the audio‐visual documents required for television programmes in scientific works., – The existing document typology is checked against television databases available on the internet, and the different units of processing, conservation and diffusion are analysed. The document is structured according to three parameters: whether it has been broadcast; whether it has not been broadcast; and other formats – in order to describe with examples the different citation possibilities of such documents., – This structure tries to be a formal and conceptual response to the ISO 690:1987 Standards. The achieved outcome put forward an effective method to describe these documents in a scope where there is a big gap both for the referenced description and for the research., – This work serves as a base for the production and citation of AV and television works in the media and communication sciences as well as in information science, sociology, history and similar areas.

La coautoría en Ciencias Sociales como estrategia para la mejora visibilidad de los trabajos científicos : aumento en el número de citas (2005-2014)

Co-authorship is analyzed in WoS in the Social Sciences, Interdisciplinary category between 2005 and 2014, in order to demonstrate the hypothesis that there is a correlation between co-authorship and an increase in the number of citations. For this purpose, co-authorship has been analyzed both at the intrainstitutional, interinstitutional, national and international levels. It is observed how there is an increase in the citation of the works that have multi author relationships at both international and international level. The analysis and results have been made on a total of 1,105 documents relevant to our consultation, which is based on the fact that at least one author of the sea works of a Spanish institution.

Desarrollo de un Instituto supranacional para la salvaguarda de los archivos y colecciones audiovisuales para América Latina y el

The work that identifies key elements for the creation of the Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Audiovisual Heritage, UNESCO project presented to implement a tool Institute serve to safeguard the main contents of audiovisual collections presented region. At work the opportunity is identified, the need and the structure, organization and objectives of the Institute. Also some supranational institutions that could finance and maintain over time an institution that has the purpose of preserving the memory and Audiovisual Heritage of Latin American countries are identified. The aim therefore is to identify the characteristics of an institution for the preservation of audiovisual and sound collections that are at risk in Latin America.

Herramienta auditora sobre el acceso y preservación de la información audiovisual televisiva

Se describe la herramienta auditora para determinar la correcta gestion, conservacion y acceso a la informacion audiovisual en las cadenas de television. Dicha auditoria se presenta en formato de herramienta auditora que analiza una serie de parametros, tales como: condiciones de accesibilidad, estado de conservacion, recursos humanos y su formacion, recursos economicos a disposicion del servicio de gestion documental, analisis de los espacios fisicos, descripcion y evaluacion de software y hardware , condiciones fisicas de conservacion, descripcion documental realizada por el servicio de documentacion y la identificacion de la existencia de politicas de preservacion, tratamiento y conservacion de informacion en las empresas audiovisuales. Todo ello, para determinar los puntos de mejora para una correcta conservacion del patrimonio audiovisual de la cadena y del Patrimonio Nacional Audiovisual de un pais. Implications of augmented reality in the management of television audiovisual information

This document analyses the possibilities offered by augmented reality for exploiting the audiovisual collections of television archives, thereby presenting the idea, which has not been developed by any network, of providing viewers with the material issued and submitted synchronously for broadcasting. By using external elements other than TV sets (tablets, iPads, Smartphones), users can access images from the archive, which have been used to generate the information or programme, contributing also with additional elements that may be of interest. Other contents related to the information provided may be similarly accessed, thus facilitating a real conceptual map of the audiovisual contents of any event. Access may be granted free of charge or by paying a fee. Commercial exploitation is achieved in the form of viewer loyalty by gaining access to additional content and providing greater bi-directionality to the communication between viewers and the media.

¿Archivos audiovisuales aún sin digitalizar? seguridad, preservación y amortización

This paper aims to show the main problems arising from the lack of digitizing all or part of television audiovisual collections, which contained the more volume to the chain and the greater antiquity is complicated, and at so complex are the documentaries digitizing media. The migration of analog to digital formats is analyzed from various viewpoints such as conservation, safety and integrity documentary, broadcast content, etc., all analyzing the paradigm shift in the television, generated by the changes in the broadcasting and production, and the integration of document management department in the Media Asset Management, which has resulted in the audiovisual collections no longer be contained tank made available to the user and integrated into the heart production system chain.

Identificam-se os metadados associados as imagens que ingressam nos departamentos de documentacao das televisoes. Estes metadados externos ao proprio gerenciamento documentario podem ser utilizados e contar com um valor positivo no marco da analise documentaria da informacao audiovisual em televisao. Igualmente assinalam-se em que momentos do processo da geracao da informacao podem ser incorporados metadados descritivos a informacao audiovisual, tanto na informacao procedente de agentes externos a propria corrente, como aquele material que se produz na propria empresa televisiva.
