Comparative Kinetic Study and Microwaves Non-Thermal Effects on the Formation of Poly(amic acid) 4,4′-(Hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic Anhydride (6FDA) and 4,4′-(Hexafluoroisopropylidene)bis(p-phenyleneoxy)dianiline (BAPHF). Reaction Activated by Microwave, Ultrasound and Conventional Heating

Green chemistry is the design of chemical processes that reduce or eliminate negative environmental impacts. The use and production of chemicals involve the reduction of waste products, non-toxic components, and improved efficiency. Green chemistry applies innovative scientific solutions in the use of new reagents, catalysts and non-classical modes of activation such as ultrasounds or microwaves. Kinetic behavior and non-thermal effect of poly(amic acid) synthesized from (6FDA) dianhydride and (BAPHF) diamine in a low microwave absorbing p-dioxane solvent at low temperature of 30, 50, 70 °C were studied, under conventional heating (CH), microwave (MW) and ultrasound irradiation (US). Results show that the polycondensation rate decreases (MW > US > CH) and that the increased rates observed with US and MW are due to decreased activation energies of the Arrhenius equation. Rate constant for a chemical process activated by conventional heating declines proportionally as the induction time increases, however, this behavior is not observed under microwave and ultrasound activation. We can say that in addition to the thermal microwave effect, a non-thermal microwave effect is present in the system.

The absolute configurations of three new enantiomerically pure ferrocenylphosphole compounds, namely (2S,4S,S(Fc))-4-methoxymethyl-2-[2-(9-thioxo-9lambda5-phosphafluoren-9-yl)ferrocenyl]-1,3-dioxane, [Fe(C5H5)(C23H22O3PS)], (III), (S(Fc))-[2-(9-thioxo-9lambda5-phosphafluoren-9-yl)ferrocenyl]methanol, [Fe(C5H5)(C18H14OPS)], (V), and (S(Fc))-diphenyl[2-(9-thioxo-9lambda5-phosphafluoren-9-yl]ferrocenylmethyl]phosphine, [Fe(C5H5)(C30H23P2)], (VIII), have been unambiguously established. All three ligands contain a planar chiral ferrocene group, bearing a dibenzophosphole and either a dioxane, a methanol or a diphenylphosphinomethane group on the same cyclopentadienyl. In compound (V), the occurrence of O-H...S and C-H...S hydrogen bonds results in the formation of a two-dimensional network parallel to (001). The geometry of the ferrocene frameworks agrees with related reported structures.

The relationship between seasonal changes and mental disorders has been extensively studied in the northern and southern hemispheres. In both cases, the results show that there is a higher rate of schizophrenic births during the winter months. The present study attempts to prove the existence of this phenomena in Mexico City, an area that does not undergo extreme weather variations throughout the year. A total of 2,288 schizophrenic patients was considered for this study. Their date of birth was compared to that of the general population of the Mexico City area, a total of 4,848,119 individuals. The number of births was evaluated according to the number of days in each month. The distribution of the births of schizophrenics was compared to the reference population by means of a Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and a X 2 contrast. The annual rhythm of births of schizophrenics was determined through an analysis of the Estimated Seasonal Component. There was a slight, non-significant increment in schizophrenic births in December and autumn, as compared with the general population birth rate. Interestingly, it was found that births in the control population decreased significantly in December when compared with all the other months. Results were discussed in relation to the geographical location of Mexico, which lies in a tropical zone, and as a consequence minimal seasonal effects.
