The introduction of the productivity gains model in the Brazi-lian agriculture has caused important changes in the rural environment, affecting its development. The agricultural sector in Parana is part of this process and in this state, also, there have been significant shifts in the structure of production, which have had an indirect influence both economically and socially in the countryside. This essay, therefore, aims to measure the rural development rate in the cities of Parana and iden-tify the determining factors. The results have shown that, in a scale of 0 to 100, the average rural development rate is 43,63. 179 cities (44,86%) present rates above the mark mentioned and 220 (55,41%) are under this mark. By organizing the cities according to the development degree it was evident that more than half of the cities in the state have had low, very low or extremely low levels of rural development, a situation that calls for actions that aim to minimize the effects of the aspects which must be intensely worked on in order to improve life in the country and as a consequence, life in the city.

The main concern of this paper is investigated if the Latin American exports is explain for monopolist competition with increasing returns or oligopoly competition with reciprocal dumping. For these propose we used gravitational equation for Latin-American exports for differentiated and homogeneous products. For our econometric estimation we used an extensive sample of exports of 26 Latin-American countrys to 136 countrys importers of the rest of the world. Our results of the research are the following (a) The Latin-American exports for differentiated goods is explain by monopoly competition and increasing returns with free entry market (b) for homogeneous goods the behavior of regional exports is associated a oligopoly competition with reciprocal dumping (c) The homogeneous goods, with are associated with primary raw materials are yet very important for the economic growth of the Latin-American countrys.

ESTUDO DA DISTRIBUIÇÃO ESPACIAL DO SETOR AGROPECUÁRIO DO RIO GRANDE DO SUL

Cláudia Bueno Rocha; José Luiz Parré

Considering the significant importance of agriculture for the State of Rio Grande do Sul economy, the present work aimed to examine the spatial distribution of agriculture in the State of Rio Grande do Sul in 2004, verifying the existence of clusters, as well as to analyze the level of correlation among the variables analyzed in the production function, using as endogenous variable the gross value of agricultural production. Thus, the Exploratory Analysis of Spatial Data was used as methodological basis. The results demonstrated the existence of positive spatial autocorrelation between towns and that the greatest values of production are found in towns situated in the North and Southeast regions. The maps of clusters allowed to verify the existence of two low-low clusters, situated in the South and Northeast of the state, and three high-high clusters in the North and Northeast region, where there is predominance of small properties, grape cultivation and high gross value of production.

This study analyzes the behavior of the agricultural land price in the municipalities of Parana State over the period 1999-2011. After literature review of the main studies of this field, the determinants of land price and methodology to be used were identified. For this purpose, we estimate the empirical model for price of agricultural land through spatial data panel. The results show that main statistically significant variables to explain the price of agricultural land in Parana State are the gross value of agricultural production, asset valuation, total financing in agriculture, ratio municipal investment-deterincome, percentage of planted soybeans in the municipality and the incorporation of spatial dependence on land prices. These variables can explain around 84% of the prices and indicate that the data presented great intrapanel fit, and the spatial effects would be more intense in the municipality itself and in relation to the whole. The proposed model, specially, advanced in structural terms, by incorporating data from all 399 municipalities in Parana. Empirically, the study advanced by estimating through panel data and considering the influence of spatial effects on the agricultural land price, highlighting the importance of the location and neighborhood in the price determination.

Objective: To identify how tobacco use among college students is discussed in the literature. Methods: A systematic review was conducted from January 2004 to December 2013. Results: Of 316 articles found, 62 met the inclusion criteria. And, most published in Spanish (46.77%). The distribution of publications about the areas of magazines, in national terms, showed that the overall health and medicine had higher participation (19.35% both). For international magazines, the area of medicine stood out with 19.35%. Conclusion: So there are many studies published in the proposed period that address the same issue from different perspectives; however, studies report differences in consumption of these products with regard to gender, protective factors and those that may predispose the emergence of harmful habits.

INVESTIMENTO ESTRANGEIRO DIRETO NO BRASIL: EFEITOS DIRETOS E ESPACIAIS SOBRE O CRESCIMENTO ECONÔMICO

Gilberto Joaquim Fraga; José Luiz Parré; Renilson Rodrigues da Silva

This paper aims to analyze the direct and indirect effects (regional spillover) of foreign direct investment in the Brazilian states on the rate of economic growth. First, was used the procedure of spatial analysis to verify the presence of spatial correlation among the states, and then, we apply econometrics of panel data with spatial weights. The results suggest that foreign direct investment can affect economic growth directly. Also is possible to observe a regional spillover effect positive. However, this relationship demonstrates sensitive to changes in the specification.
