This study analyzes, in a sample of Mexican students, the factor structure of the Physical Self-Concept Questionnaire of Goñi, Ruiz de Azúa, and Rodríguez (2006), which assesses physical ability, physical fitness, attractiveness, strength, general physical self-concept, and global self-concept. A representative sample of 1,466 Mexican university physical education students was selected (754 men, 712 women; M age = 20.6 yr., SD = 2.0). Confirmatory factor analysis showed a two-factor structure (motor competency and physical attractiveness). The two-factor structure, regarding statistical and substantive criteria, had good fit indices. Results of the factor analyses carried out with the sub-samples indicated a strong stability and evidence for the factor structure obtained. The findings support the use of this questionnaire to measure physical self-concept in Mexican university students. Future studies should replicate these findings in other populations.

EnglishThe present study analyzes the possibility of duplicating the psychometric results for the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Inventory. The total sample comprised 1307 participants; all of them students of the degree of Physical Education and Human Motricity offered at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, with a mean age of 20.46 years. Psychometric analysis showed that a Three -factorial structure was viable and adequate. The factorial structure of the questionnaire was analyzed with confirmatory factor analysis. The structure of the three factors (cognitive, sleep disorders and somatic symptoms), attending to substantive and statistic criteria, showed adequate indicators of adjustment of reliability and validity. In addition, factor analysis conducted with subsamples indicated the presence of strong evidence of factor structure stability. Future research should replicate these findings in larger samples.

EnglishThe present study investigates the psychometric results proposed by Rangel for the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale. The total sample included 716 male students, with a mean age of 20.8 years, of the degree of Physical Education and Human Motricity offered at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua in Mexico. Psychometric analysis showed that a tetra-factorial structure was viable and adequate. The factorial structure of the questionnaire was analyzed with confirmatory factor analysis. The four-factor structure included comprehension, communication, attention and excellence. This showed adequate indicators of adjustment of reliability and validity. In addition, factor analysis conducted with subsamples showed the presence of strong evidence of factor structure stability.

The present study analyses the psychometric properties of the a self-efficacy scale on academic behavior in university students, men and women. The overall sample consisted of 1545 subjects: 616 women and 929 men, with a mean age of 18.11 years and 18.27 years, respectively. Psychometric analysis showed that a three-factorial structure (attention, communication and excellence) was viable and adequate for both populations, men and woman, according to the established psychometric requirements when the informers are the students themselves. The results showed that factor structure, factor loadings and intercepts of the instrument could be considered invariant across groups. However, there are differences between groups for the means of the factors attention and excellence.

The aim of the present study was to compare the profiles of general perceived self-efficacy between men and women mexican university students. A total sample of 282 participants, 142 women and 140 men with a mean age of 20 and 21 years, respectively, participated in this study. A quantitative approach with a descriptive and transversal survey design was applied. The results of the one-way multivariate analysis of variance, followed by the one-way univariate analyses of variance, showed that women reported statistically significant higher punctuations than men regarding the perceived self-efficacy and greatest need and ability to be more self-efficacious. Differences found between men and women regarding their perceived selfefficacy, suggest that any effort to improve perceived self-efficacy must take gender into consideration.
