Bryophyte conservation biology: In vitro approach to the ex situ conservation of bryophytes from Europe

Marko Sabovljevic; Milorad Vujičić; Jovana Pantović; Aneta Sabovljevic

Like all other plants, bryophytes suffer from various threats in a rapidly changing environment. Compared with vascular plants, they have received significantly less conservation attention, and the issues around their conservation have been a subject of study for little more than 30 years. Very few documented actions have been taken to halt the decline in bryophyte diversity (including genetic, species and habitat conservation). The ex situ approach is one of the most recently developed methods in the conservation initiative but it is rarely applied to bryophyte conservation. Lately, significant advances have been made in in vitro bryophyte biotechnology as a component of ex situ propagation. In this article, we discuss the current state of knowledge, associated problems and achievements, with reference to the ex situ bryophyte collection of the Bryophyte Biology Group in Belgrade.

Interesting and New Species for the Bryophyte Flora of Serbia

Beáta Papp; Jovana Pantović; Marko Sabovljevic

Abstract: Papp, B., Pantović, J., Szurdoki, E. & Sabovljević, M. S. 2014. Interesting and new species for the bryophyte flora of Serbia. — Herzogia 27: 221–225. During extensive field research on cryptogams of Pešter plateau in SW Serbia three species were recorded new to the bryophyte flora of Serbia. These are two liverworts and one moss, Riccia canaliculata, Scapania praetervisa and Pseudoleskeella rupestris, respectively.

Myurella sibirica, a Moss Species New to Montenegro and Serbia: Its Range Extension Towards South-Eastern Europe

Beáta Papp; Jovana Pantović; Marko Sabovljevic

Abstract The moss species Myurella sibirica (Müll. Hal.) Reimers is reported for the first time from Serbia and Montenegro. The new records significantly extend the known European range of this Europe-wide endangered species into the southeast. The species was found in limestone rock crevices in mountain to high mountain areas.

Three Novelties for the Bryophyte Flora of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Jovana Pantović; Ðorđije Milanović; Marko Sabovljevic

Abstract: Pantović, J., Milanović, Ð. & Sabovljević, M. 2016. Three novelties for the bryophyte flora of Bosnia and Herzegovina. — Herzogia 29: 801–804. During the field investigation of the bryophyte flora of the National Park Sutjeska (the Republic of Srpska, SE Bosnia and Herzegovina), three new records were discovered. One new moss species (Fissidens serrulatus) and two liverwort species were recorded (Porella arboris-vitae and Cololejeunea rossettiana).
