Six cases of osteosarcoma, including medullary, parosteal, periosteal, and intracortical types, were studied by computed tomography (CT). In selected cases, CT provided additional preoperative information as to osseous size and soft-tissue extent. CT helped determine intramedullary involvement and specific sites of cortical destruction and thereby helped to plan the surgical approach to biopsy and the definitive excision.

A patient with a benign appearing intraosseous fibrous lesion of the cervical vertebra is presented. The lesion had the histologic features of non-ossifying fibroma (metaphyseal fibrous defect). Because of its atypical location and unusual radiologic appearance, the lesion was diagnosed as a fibrous histiocytoma, a tumor whose histology is similar to non-ossifying fibroma. The literature was reviewed for similar cases located outside the metaphysis of the long bones. Support is given for designating such lesions as fibrous histiocytomas rather than non-ossifying fibromas.

This 27-year-old black woman, with previously verified sickle cell disease, presented with a chief complaint of pain in the left elbow. The patient admitted to several previous episodes of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and, indeed, the pelvic examination was compatible with PID. Physical examination of the left elbow demonstrated tenderness and soft tissue swelling along the medial aspect of the elbow, with decreased motion of the
