The memristor has drawn the worldwide attention sine HP laboratory released its invention on May 1, 2008 at Nature Letters. Since then many researchers are taking efforts to find its applications in various areas of the information technology. A good model will help to study and seize the behavior characteristics of memristor. In this paper, we proposed a piecewise line approximated memristor model, and tested the approximated model using several test cases. Simulation results show that the proposed approximated model can be well applied.

A PWL (PieceWise Linear) model of the new found memristor is proposed in this article. A simple second order circuit containing an inductor, a capacitor, a resistor and a memristor serves as an example to illustrate the application of this model. The circuit equation is established then Matlab simulation is performed. It is believed from this example that the model could provide satisfactory result for analyzing circuits containing memristor(s).

A Memristor Based 3th Order Chaotic Oscillator is studied in this paper. The oscillator consists 4 kinds of passive circuit elements: R, L, C and M (Memristor). Some typical phase portraits like stable focus, unstable focus, limit cycle as well as strange attractor can be observed in the oscillator.

Memristive circuit element, such as memristor, memcapacitor and meminductor has the property of memory to its dynamic history. The capacitance of a charge-controlled memcapacitor has the relation to the charge accumulated in it, thus leads to nonlinearity. Strange nonlinear behaviors can be observed in some memristive circuits. A three-order passive circuit with charge-controlled memcapacitor is studied in this paper. This circuit consists of conventional R, C, L and one charge-controlled memcapacitor. Simulation result shows that this simple circuit exhibits complex oscillation, and chaotic attractor can be generated in this nonlinear circuit.

Voltage-controlled memcapacitor has the property of variable capacitance to voltage added on, that leads to nonlinear dynamic response. A three-order passive circuit with a voltage-controlled memcapacitor is proposed in this paper to generate chaotic oscillation. When configured with proper parameters and initial conditions, strange attractors can be observed. Lyapunov exponent analysis, along with continuous frequency distribution, conditions sensitive characteristic were provided through simulation, shows the existence of chaos in this simple circuit.

A current-controlled meminductor has the property of variable inductance according to current flowing across it, that brings the nonlinear relation between state variables. In this paper, a three-order passive circuit with a current-controlled meminductor is proposed to generate chaotic oscillation. When configured with proper parameters and initial conditions, strange attractors can be observed. Lyapunov exponent analysis, along with continuous frequency distribution, conditions sensitive characteristic were provided through numerical simulation, which shows the existence of chaos in this simple memristive system.
