Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine relationships between work organisation, bullying and intention to leave (ITL) in the Australian hospitality industry, using pressure, disorganisation and regulatory failure (PDR) to measure work organisation. Design/methodology/approach Cross-sectional survey data were collected from 72 workers in Australian accommodation hotels. They were aged 20-65 years (M=38.26, SD=12.60) and 57.1 per cent were female. The proposed path model was tested with the Mplus (v.7) statistical package using Hayes’ (2009) procedure for mediation analysis. Findings There were positive bivariate correlations between all variables. The path model indicated that disorganisation and regulatory failure had direct positive associations with bullying. Financial pressure and bullying had direct positive associations with ITL. Research limitations/implications The small sample may not be representative and the cross-sectional design and self-report data risk common method variance effects and preclude attributions of causality. Future studies should use more representative samples and longitudinal designs to address common method variance issues and facilitate causal inferences. Originality/value Bullying and turnover are significant problems in the hospitality industry, but the contribution of work organisation variables is poorly understood. The present study provides promising preliminary evidence on the potential role of PDR as an antecedent of both bullying and ITL.

Retirement research is now expanding beyond the post-World War II baby boomers’ retirement attitudes and plans to include the nature of their workforce exit and how successfully they adjust to their new life. These elements are collectively known as the process of retirement. However, there is insufficient research in developing countries to inform the management of their ageing populations regarding this process. This review aims to facilitate national and cross-cultural research in developing and non-English speaking countries by reviewing the existing measures of the retirement process published in English and Portuguese. The review identified 28 existing measures assessing retirement attitudes, planning, decision making, adjustment and satisfaction with retirement. Information on each scale’s item structure, internal reliability, grammatical structure and evidence of translations to other languages is presented. Of the 28 measures, 20 assessed retirement attitudes, plans and decision-making, 5 assessed adjustment to retirement and only two assessed retirement satisfaction. Only eight of the 28 scales had been translated into languages other than English. There is scope to translate measures of retirement attitudes and planning into other languages. However there is a paucity of translated measures of retirement decision-making and adjustment, and measures of retirement satisfaction in general. Within the limitations of this review, researchers are provided with the background to decide between translating existing measures or developing of more culturally appropriate assessment tools for addressing their research questions.

New global confi gurations produce different modifi cations on work, routine and information management procedures. The home-offi ce, work made from home, is among new work strategies that arose in 1970’s, which achieved greater prominence in recent years. This paper aims to understand aspects of work and psychosocial variables surrounding 74 professionals (M= 38.2 e SD= 8.8) that reported to work or have worked in home-offi ce. Participants answered an online questionnaire with open and closed questions, which responses were analyzed with content analysis and frequency. Results show that 62 participants worked from home-offi ce at the moment of the research, being the main advantage of this model of work the fl exibility of hours and the most recurrent disadvantage was the lack of socialization. Participants cited problems in professional and personal terms, such as implications for health and family life and 1 Endereço para correspondência: Av. Of study, practice, and training, the various challenges faced by psychologists working in this area have been discussed. However, discussion of the practice and skills of professionals working in the licensing of firearm usage is unusual. In order to improve understanding of these activities and this study, we interviewed 14 psychologists acting as experts in licensing the possession of firearms in a southeastern state of Brazil. All subjects were female aged 30-60 years (M = 39.1 years; SD = 7.1 years). The results indicate that a lack of training in expertise in possession of a firearm as well as a training deficit in Psychological Assessment may lead to negative perceptions within this context of action. Bureaucratic and documentary concerns surrounding this assessment, the lack of parameters to evaluate candidate profiles, and the problem of discredit of psychologists as evaluators emerged as key themes, leading to a discussion of the role of training in the dissemination of best practices.
